Good evening everyone!
Just a quick "fashion-related" question.
I just got a squad of second edition metal terminators. The sargent has the helmet on and all, but I can't complain since I got them free and where I live, GW products are hard to find.
The big question is: banner pole: yes or no?
As a rule, I generally don't like banners, even in game terms, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense carrying around this ginourmous thing on your back that gets in the way and screams to the enemy "here I am!"
On the other hand, than can be made to fit very well into the army if they are modeled/painted correctly.
The only constant in the universe is change, adapt or die.
This is mostly an all-or-none question. If just one squad in the army has a banner it looks a little odd. If there are 3 or 4 mini-banners (sergs, dreads, termies, HQs etc) then it can look great.
Any model that's meant to look like it will operate in difficult terrain (City fight, Space Hulk) shouldn't have a banner- can you imagine the embarassment if it got stuck crashing through a doorway or climbing into a tunnel?
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
Banners were used in the older editions of WH40k in which almost all leader-type models had them. Nowadays I think they're a little out of place since very few models use them. Unless you want to use them to differentiate a model as a sergeant or special character, I took mine out because 1) they get in the way when putting template/blasts on top of my characters to see how many affected, 2) they take up more storage space, and 3) most of my models don't have them.
I use banner poles on various models, but not systematically throughout my entire army. I like the banner poles because the banners scream "I'm here in the name of the Emperor and I don't need to hide".
"Fear not and look up to the sky for salvation, for we have entered orbit."
Blood Angels 2nd Grail Guard Company
personally i use trophies instead of banners they just appear to cumbersome
"All of the tainted shall fall before me".
I am not using banner poles. If I want a banner I use for the army as a whole. Yes customization of the models you might ask at this point. Give them a trophy at the base, paint a decoration more on the armor (even detail will do), tweek the model in a way (alter head or pose)... so many things to do...
Too bad I have lost touch with my models for about two months now...
Thanks to all the people showing faith in me
I sometimes feel that everyone will leave me and they will be on their own...
Thanks a lot guys! I took Tsele's advice and repositioned one of his arms, and will paint the helmet in blue. But like Onibane said:I am not using banner poles. If I want a banner I use for the army as a whole. Yes customization of the models you might ask at this point. Give them a trophy at the base, paint a decoration more on the armor (even detail will do), tweek the model in a way (alter head or pose)... so many things to do...They will accompany a librarian in terminator armour, so one of them is already screaming "I'm here, I'm a big target! Try to take me out!" with a trophy as big as a scout!personally i use trophies instead of banners they just appear to cumbersome
I always thought it looked daft when GW showed photos of marines with huge poles and flags making them half as tall again, exiting vehicles they could never have got into. Unless they were laying down in them.
Back mounted banner poles should be reserved for Samuri only. But then again, the best thing about 40k is you can basically do as you like.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
