    drop pod

I am working on a new dark angels deathwing army with drop pods. (just ordered the book and haven't received it yet) I was wondering since you can only have 5 terminators in a drop pod, how do you attach a commander or chaplain with a squad in the drop pod? Do you have to buy a seperate drop pod for one model?

I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy.

If the Drop Pods in Codex: Dark Angels are the same as the current Drop Pods in Codex: Space Marines, then the capacity is 12 models, 6 if in Terminator Armour. So, you'll be able to fit a squad of five Terminators with an Independent Character. Make sure to check the capacity of the Drop Pod once you get the book.

Why Drop pods? Why no deep strike? Can't deep strike in a Deathwing Army? Pardon my unfamiliarity with Dark Angel rules

Drop Pods are a lot safer than regular Deep Strike, because there is no chance of scattering into a unit or impassable terrain. That's pretty much the only reason I'd use them over regular Deep Strike.

One additional benefit is that the drop pod can be used to physically block avenues and guide advancing armies where you can have better position.

thanks guys for the info, but still not sure yet about the question. Does dark angels have the new rule with drop pods being 12 models or are they like the the blood angels rules where the drop pods are only 10 (i have the blood angels rules in the white dwarf)? like i said the rules are on the way but just want to know do i have to buy a seperate drop pod for the character (leader) or is the 12 model thing for dark angels also?

    1. Codex Dark Angels Drop Pod capacity is ten models, Terminators count as two, Dreadnoughts count as 10.

    2. Now this is what confuses me. Deathwing Assault Squads do not actually have the ability to purchase a dedicated transport, including a Drop Pod. How would you buy one and fit terminators in it? ...even though GW says they count as two models... If I remember the rules correctly, and I might not, you cannot start any unit in a dedicated transport that is not the unit with which is was bought (i.e. can't fit Terminators in a Tactical Squad's Drop Pod before the game starts).

Guess this explains why I like my Dark Eldar so much...
