Can daemonhunters allie with space wolves? I know it says space marines/IG but the wolves are a chapter of the marines.
Yes, I believe that they can
“ Belief in a cruel God makes a cruel man. ” - Thomas Paine
A Space Wolf army may take DH allies.
A DH army can only take generic vanilla SM allies.
Page 21 of the DH codex lists the armies that can take DH allies, which includes ALL chapters of loyalist SM.
All chapters, yes, but only the basic versions which are listed in the codex: Space marines. (no special units allowed from chapter-specific codexes)
ie: The only troops you're allowed from marines, are basic tactical squad, or scout unit.
I think that what people are trying to tell you is that although you may use the Space Wolves figures to ally with your DH army, you may only use the rules in Codex: Space Marines.
On tghe other hand as mentioned before, you can have a Space Wolves army (with space wolves rules) with Deamon Hunters as allies...

no megalo is right on pg.21 it says in my own words so its not against copyright:
you can take all space marines as allies including chapter VARIANTS such as dark angels, blood angels, space wolves, salamanders, etc.
there ya go
and read the codex
When cities burn and armies turn
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day,
But warriors know it in their marrow when they
die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have
fought at all.

Hugus is right, Fenix.. I think you are slightly mistaken.
The gray boxed area (that you are referencing) on page 21 tells what armies can take DH as allies (not DH taking IG/SM as allies). SM armies, including variants, can take DH as allies.
So, a Space Wolves army can take DH as allies.
However, the other stuff on pg 21 talks about DH taking IG/SM allies as part of a DH army. Here it says that "When using Allied or Inducted troops, only the basic versions of these troop types...can be used."
Thus, as I (and Hugus) said:
A Space Wolves (or other SM variant) army can take any DH allies.
A DH army can only take Vanilla IG/SM allies. You can use the models and call them Sapce Wolves, Blood Angels, whatever, but you must use only the basic version rules (no chapter specific rules).
Christ people, thats exactly what I was talking about. Look at what I said:I wasn't talking about what DH can take as allies, but who can take allies from DH. BC Shadow Dragon's question looked to me like he was asking if his SW could take DH allies, which they can.Page 21 of the DH codex lists the armies that can take DH allies, which includes ALL chapters of loyalist SM.
I never touched DH taking other armies as allies. In which case, you can use any model, but they only count as vanilla, so no special rules.
can you take daemonhunter HQ's in a Spacewolves army with allied daemonhunters? because in the daemonhunters codex it says any compulsory units must be taken from the "parent list" and the spacewolves "retinues rules" says it must have a HQ for evry 750 pts. so eg. in a 2000 pts army u need 3 HQ which are compulsory so must be spacewolves HQ's or can u take 2 spacewolves HQ and 1 DH HQ for example?
