i've just started a new chapter,The shadow blades but i can't come up with any fluff for them.the only thing i have is that they have fast bikes and assault units followed by the main force. what are your ideas for fluff.
A good starting point is 'Why?'
I'll explain what I mean. I recently brought the Sisters of Battle codex, and set about making army lists. I like the idea of rolling around in a bunch of tanks, so I included as many troop transports and mobile units (Jump Packs and the like) as possible.
And then I came to fluff, and I started by asking myself; Why do they have so many tanks? Why would they need them?
I ended up coming up with the idea that they were a ship-based order. They travel here and there on their ship, fighting heretics and witches wherever required. When they deploy, they deploy in their vehicles which contain everything they need to live for a week or so, so they can get their job done and return.
Similarly, I had a Tau army which I was unsure how to fluff up. I'd been working on a few modifications to battlesuits, making one (the commander's suit) into this hulking, spiky monstrosity.
I again had to ask "Why would he do that? Why would he be allowed to get away with it?"
I cam up with the idea of the Tau commander conducting 'field research' into fear and intimidation, and the effect it has on enemies. He has modified his suit to inspire dread and frighten the enemy, and beginning to spread these modifications across the army. However, he is being carefully watched by an Ethereal, to make sure his practices do not deviate from furthering the Greater Good.
So although this is a long post, essentially all I do is sit down and ask myself 'Why?' In your case, it may be good to start with "Why do they rely so much on Fast Attack?" or "Why do they have so many Bikes?"
And then you just start writing down ideas until you come up with something you like!
If you manage to slug through all this and get something from it, congratulations. And also, may I take a moment to welcome you to the forums?
Greetings, holybolter, and I hope you enjoy your time here!
I was thinking that they worked like the roman military, you know send fast skirmishers in first then bring in the main forces,i think they will have only one tank
