Newly rediscovering this hobby of mine, and I'm building my Tomb Kings army as we speak. A lot of the guys I will be playing with also run 40K, so I'm thinking about a 40K army as well.
I think that IG is due for a new codex soon so any answers you might be able to give are possibly going to be outdated by the time I start buying things, but here goes.
Even if it's impractical, even if it's expensive cash-wise, I really want an all armour-army. Tanks, mobile artillery, walkers, you name it. If it's big, armoured and is bristling with guns, I want to play it.
Now, can this be done with IG? If so, just how impractical is this? I'd like to win a game or two if I can, but to me the modeling and painting aspect of vehicles is a big part of the draw of 40K to me.
I appreciate any feedback you can offer!
You could take the mechanised doctrine, where everyones in a chimera, but rumoure has it that all doctrines are going out the window in the new codex.
My advice is to build up your tomb kings and come to imperial guard when the new codex is out in may. Its always fun starting an army with a brand new codex
If you really cant wait, buy loads of infantry! you cant go wrong with them!
No, no. I can wait. In fact that's why I thought about IG, knowing that they do have a significant amount of armour available and that a new book was coming.
The best thing about IG though is all the Imperial fluff, none of the SMurf.
Yeah it's very possible, and as long as most of the new codex rumors hold up it will be even more so with the new codex.
The two weaknesses are troops and anti-tank. Mounted Grenadiers fit the bill pretty well for troops (can't say they'll be 100% in the new dex yet), but you end up with really low numbers of men so your tanks have to pull all the weight and keep your objective holders from getting killed. Then make sure to have plenty of missles, lascannons, and meltas throwing fire around.
It's definately fun and very different from your average guard playstyle.
I run an armored list on occassion and it's something like;
Command with Anti-tank
3 Leman Russ or 2/1 Demolisher
3 Chimera with Grenadiers
and a small infantry platoon for objective squatting or some vets.
Cool, sounds like I'll want to pick up the new Codex.
Newb question, when is it out?
Grand. Thx again!
