There is a chance i'll be playing a tyranid opponent in a smallish 750pt game soon - i'm considering going light on troops (3-4 min stormtrooper squads) with chimeras and immolators backed up by an inq landraider.
Flamers and heavy bolters en-mass, perhaps a plasma or melta-ST squad for the big bugs.
First time i've played nids outside of apoc games - am I mad to take light vehicles or the LR, and so few bodies...?
Yes you are. TMC's will make short work of your LR...don't bother with it. More troops and more faith points. Forget stormies. For about the same price, you get sisters with better armor & faith points. Arm each with flamer & heavy flamer and use your faith points when fighting the TMC's. Also get a couple of rhino's for your sisters. Your opponen't dakka flyrant will make short work of sisters on foot. Also get a cannoness for the extra faith points.
When I pieced the first LR/mech list together my concern was more about losing 150pts of sisters to gaunt/stealer charges, or having them bottled up in rhinos for half the game. While I don't know what my opponent plans on taking he is usually a quantity over quality type player.
Still, the lack of models with that LR putting a hole in my points concerns me a little. I've always meant to try massed battle sisters but i'm not sure about facing rushing horde nids with them.
Sisters in rhinos own horde nids.
Seriously. Gaunts can't hurt your rhinos, so just pop the top hatch and flamerize them. Immolators work well too.
If he charges your rhinos with stealers, yeah, they'll open up, but then you open up on him!
Nids don't have a whole lot at 750 that can open up a fair number of tanks reliably to get the charges they need to win.
I'd take 2 or 3 units of my standard sisters in rhinos:
VSS w/ eviscerator, BoSL, bolt pistol
flamer, heavy flamer
@ 222 pts
you have 306 pts you can spend
I'd then take a cannoness (w/blessed weapon, polt pistol and bosl) with celestian retinue w/ 2 meltas in a naked immolator (231 pts). Then, you still have room for something else (another immolator?)
3= 666 pts... oops...
You have a little under 100 pts you can spend on an HQ
Regardless. Sisters will rock the bugs' world!
I'm trying to catalog every song with a reference to yetis or Sasquatch. Please help.
Though they were outshone by the eversor who ran down the SM chaptermaster his entire sternguard escort in the first turn, after rolling 1 for attacks too 'wryyyyyy'
The obvious question against nids is why take 200+ points of sisters when you can get 5 stormies with 2 flamers and two heavy flamers in a chimera for 115 points (we use IA2 prices).
I know the chimeras are a little vulnerable from the sides but you could squeeze six of them into 750 with a palatine and a few points left over for things to shoot up tyrants.
Nidzilla lists can be a bit rough though.....especially a nidzilla with outflanking genestealers...
Then you gotta hope your exorsist takes down that stinking sniper fex fast.

Anyhow, here is how the game played out :
Dawn of war annihilation. He rolled high and opted to go second. 6' by 4' board with lots of scattered ruins but nothing really solid to block LOS.
My force was a shooty inq with a landraider and a pair of small stormtrooper squads in chimeras (plus a few odds and ends that had no impact in the game)
He had a pricey upgraded venom-cannon tyrant, 4 shooty warriors, 2 big without number gaunt squads and a big hormagaunt squad.
To cut a short story even shorter - the psyocculum equipped inq retinue and forward positioned landraider crucified the tyrant while the chimeras shot up the hormagaunts. In the next turn the warriors appeared and were promptly sent packing without even getting a shot off.
And that was that. My opponent has vowed to go nidzilla and has been eyeballing fexes and stealers for the rest of the tourney we are playing, while my thoughts turn to the battlesuit heavy tau player.
