It's been quite some time since there's been anything new here in the DH threads so I've decided to create this thread for fun.
While I do not have a lot of DH battles under my belt, I have used them a few times as allies to my IG & SM armies.
2 of my better DH battles are:
1) Went up against Space Wolves with pure DH army. I got 2 Inq.'s, each w/retinues of 2 sages, 1 mystic, & 2 warriors w/plasma guns + 1 w/plasma cannon. My opponent then DS his entire army very close to mine and I proceeded to wipe out about 20% of his army as he landed. Awesome. Too bad the game ended as a tie.
2) I played Space Marines w/GKT allies (w/psycannon for BC & incinie for retinue) against orks. I had about 40+ guys and he had about 220! The game didn't finish but just my GKT's alone wiped out 2 mobs of 30 ork boyz with good use of terrain, shooting, incinie & assault and without losing a single GKT (yet).
I was playing a massive Apoc game a few weeks ago and they used the warp rift assest as well as about 4000pts of deamon troops arrived all in one spot killing everything with in about 12" with shooting i used a about 2000pts of terminators and teleporting marines and dropped incinerator plates every were killing about 3k of them. best was one unit of 5 terminatior plus Brother Captian with Psycannon wiped out a unit of 20 Bloodletters and skulltaker hehe
Yes people i know that my spelling and punctuation is awful but I am product of British teaching pollicies so what can I do about it?
on a 500 point match: Tau Vs Deamonhunters. (4th edition battle)
His army was something like:
group of fire warriors
gundrone unit (about 60
a few kroot.
1 elite =I= with storm bolter
2 groups of PAGK, about 6 man strong
In course of the battle, I killed the kroot with the callidus assasin. Kroot tried to make a flank maneuver, but the cassidus spoilt the attempt. The callidus was then forced to stay in a corner, to prevent being shot by the fire warriors.
I used the Inquisitor as bait, which he took, making me able to kill all the vespid and make the drones flee the table in the next round.
I then just hid back behind the building, and won the battle because of victory points. His lost more than half his army, and I only lost intentionally my inquisitor!
1500 pnt match: Space Marines Vs Deamonhunters (5th edition)
Throughout the battle, it came out to this:
I lost about 2 terminators and 5 PAGK
He lost his commandsquad with Sicarius, his 5 man assault veteran squad (those who can deepstrike and then be able to charge), his 5 man veteran shooty marines (with those annoying special rounds), predator and 5 normal marines from some random combat squad.
I can tell you, that if your opponent isn't ready for 8 GKT, it's going to be messy when they start hacking away in melee!
Tyranids Win / Draw /Lost
Daemon Hunters Win / Draw / Lost
I hear you. For those MEQ's who've never faced the knights before (and aren't familiar with them), they will quickly learn to fear them (at least in cc).
Nice Topic, jy2! This kind of thing shows off the strengths of the Daemonhunters, giving us all more ideas and tactics to use on the tabletop, inspired by eachother.
Rep on this one.
I play a friend with Black Templar almost every day on Vassal. In a Capture and Control mission, the first game my opponent formally entered assault with my Grey Knights, he was forced to make a last minute assault on my barricaded troops. His objective too far away to claim, the only choice left was to throw 15 Templar, 6 Assault Terminators, and 2 Independant Characters at the bunker where I had 20 Knights holding my objective.
The Black Templars don't automatically come equipped with Frag Grenades, save the Emperors Champion. Focussing mainly on the Templar and Terminators as they burst through the cover, I eliminated every single opponent. The remaining Templar Characters killed 4 Knights, and had to take 17 Armor Saves each for the horrible massacre they just lived through.. they didn't live for long.
For the cost of 4 Knights, I had killed 4 units worth ~720 points. Glorious.
2H - LEGIO HYDRA
It was a 500 point combat patrol against necrons for a campaign and I had 2 squads of GK with 2 psycannons in each, this was a while ago. Up against a squad of destroyers and a squad of 12 warriors. I actually outshot the destroyers, and killed 2, they rolled 11 for leadership and fell back off the board... His warriors shot my 2nd GK squad down to 3 guys, I got incombat, and beat them pretty hard. It was a GLORIOUS day for the Knights.
The first shooting attack I rolled for in the first shooting phase of the first game I'd played for 18 months resulted in my plasma cannon servitor rolling a 1 and dying. I think that qualifies as epic fail. For epic win it's got to be killing Marneus Calgar with bolter spam. Calgar's ubiquity annoys me so much I'll happily lose a game just to make sure he dies. Others include a 1500pts game against an IG army in which my GM retinue's Deep Strike landed a bum-hair away from their home objective on Turn 5, a Daemonhost Pinning two squads of Stormies (MY Stormies) with his first act of the game, a squad of PAGKs holding an objective against 3 turns of focused heavy weapons fire and two seperate assaults, that murderous iron-jawed scowl your opponent gets when he has to keep testing for The Shrouding with every single squad in every. Single. Turn. And the big smile you have to try very hard to suppress when all his AP3 shooting squads keep rolling 18" and 20" from 30" away and he starts getting annoyed.
One of the best moments I've had with my DH was when I used an inquisitor lord with some mystics in the retinue and an inquisitor in an Honour Guard with a Chaplain as allies in my blood angels army against chaos daemons. It was very amusing watching nearly every unit deployed within range of the inquisitor lord's Mystic ability being shot to shreds, especially a couple soulgrinders by a nearby unit of devastators with lascannons. Of course baiting a Bloodthirster into combat with the inquisitor and the marines was fun considering the anointed weapon, Grimoire, and Sacred Incense I had on him. I don't think I lost any units that game
Warhammer 40k: Blood Angels, Imperial Guard, Grey Knights, Space Lizards (wolves), Kroot, Witch Hunters, Dark Eldar
Warhammer: Lizardmen, Empire, Vampire Counts, Brettonians, High Elves, Skaven
Nightbringer being sent to the warp (haha it really hates this place) by My GrandMaster Ekelons NFW.
Inquisitor Lord parrying archon and Incubi in a close combat turn and killing a Incubi with his bare hands!
-Would of been hilarious if he sweeping advanced!
Inquisitor Lord parrying 1 Incubi after Archon killed 2 of his retinue, Inquisitor Lord forgot to attack back, ran away (just making it, Archon needed a 2 to catch me) I then retreated to the corner of the room, my turn, I turned to shoot killing the 2 remaining Incubi and archon with 1 Pyscannon! Later that game I ran around firing Pyscannon shots, the Archons Raider tried to hunt the Inquisitor Down and enslave him, it fired a dark lance beam at the Inquisitor in the open went to ground (begging the emeperor for mercy on his soul) and I got a Six!
Whole squad of Ork tank busters (at least twice), failing to get six's against my LRC
Daemon Prince with warp time failing 16 rolls to hit on a re-roll against my LRC.
Killed Skull taker with GM ekelon NFW he had 2+ save against Force weapon.
Vindicare killing Emperors champion in one shot.
Probably more, like Inquisitor Lords with mystics going beserk against DS armies.
Nice thread !
I might write like a ork but i fight like a poet.
Some one tell me they have ever seen a nightbringer die from a Nemesis Force Weapon.
I was playing a 1500 point Daemonhunters VS Daemons (gasp) and it was capture and control/DoW. After an amazing game it came down to my Inquisitor on my capture point using sanctuary, pushing 2 16 "man" squads and a soulgrinder (who was locked in CC and killed my retinue the turn prior) off of the point on turn 6. Since none of them were within 3 inches, they weren't contesting the point, while my LRC and GKTs cleared the other point for my remaining PAGKs.
I feel bad for his other soulgrinder, though. Turn one it scatters into terain, but made it's check, only to be immobilized by a long ranged multimelta shot from my LRC, which was an inch shy of 2d6 pen.
