I am need of assistance with regards to building a second army list that centers more around Range rather than upclose and personal.
I have an idea of what i want or need but does anyone has a suggested Range Combat list for about 1750 points? that has done them well in the past? so i can use that as perhaps a base model to go by....
Feel free to suggest units or troop choices etc it doesn't have to be a whole list just ideas as well.
Try looking through some army lists in the 'Army List' sub-forum. I'm sure you'll find something tailored to your liking that is proven. If you've already done that... focus a lot on tactical squads (since only they can hold objectives) and heavy support (devastators, preds etc).
ps. up close and personal is much more fun.
Black Templar (W/D/L): 4/6/2
Dark Eldar (W/D/L): 4/1/0
Warriors of Chaos (W/D/L): 3/0/1
darcchipmunk's idea is good, though many folk try to make a list to work in all situations (As is the way with SM!)
Ideas would be :
Lots of Tacs with Razorbacks for transports (combat squad all tacs!), a Pred, a pair of Vindicators, a 10man termie squad (combat-squadded!) with a LandRaider as dedicated transport, and perhaps 2 Sternguard squads if points permit.
I've not calculated any of the points costs for that lot, but I'd consider that to be the general way forward for serious shooty power.
Thanks guys for the information so far, much appreciating the help
thunderfire cannons can shoot far and will tear apart hordes, if you are keeping your units back they should be able to protect it
the vindicator can be good to drop some massive bombs on your enemies as you sit back and wait for them
dev squads are ideal because u will be haning back mostly so they can sit tight with lots of shield units and protection.
i would stay away from the rinos because if u want to hang back you migh as well sit outside fo the rino and shoot.
consider gettign a hq with orbital bombardment (very 'rangey' imo) isntead of someone like pedro who loves CC.
Ranged firepower. Did you mean long-range only or rapid-firing goodness too?
Tacticals in Razors, sniper scouts, Sternguard, Dreads, Terminators, Land Speeders, Bikes, Predators, Vindicators, Land Raiders, and others can make for solid dakka lists.
