i have a buddy who has a dark eldar army. I tried findign tactics onlien to no avail. he has atleast 1 ravenger and will proabably go heavy on the dark lances. he also has a unit of CC fliers and some ghoul type units that march as a retinue to his hq that cant be killed by gunfire
We will likely be playing around 1250 points. i plan on tacking two standard tac sqauds, bringing out my predator (heavy bolters and cannon)and taking a dev sqaud. i am also thinking of using an asasult squad (5-10 man). i have a thunderfire cannon and a razorback i could use as well.
i dont want to take terminators because i expect he could tear them apart with his lances.
What else should i take and what kind of strategies have worked againt dark eldar? All i can think of is taking down his ravanger in turn 1, shooting his stadard units apart with my predator and tac squads and sending in the asault squad for any units he leaves behind.
Just know they move fast and like CC. They rely on their Raiders to move, and being that they're open topped with glass armour, they fall apart to small arms fire. Just lay the Dev's and Predator on them. Expect some CC and trickery, but overall, just shoot, try to keep them at a distance, but know that you'l end up in close combat.
This tactic has worked for me many a time. The difference being that I play BT so I could return the CC nastiness with a tad more effectiveness.
Assault Marines and Devastators are your best friends.

Snaeper's told you good things, and I totally agree.
Barring the Incubi, which can only be bought as a retinue for an HQ, all DE have poor Tougness and poor armour. Think Imperial Guard.
One thing to watch out for, is that Raiders are open-topped, and almost all DE are Fleet. This means that a Raider can move 12", squad disembarks = +2", shoots you with Assault weapons or Runs, then Assaults you +6".
Working together, two 10 man Raider squads, both with a Succubus with an Agoniser, a Blaster and an Splinter Cannon, could cause you a great deal of harm.
The guys that seem to shake of all shooting are called Grotesques. They ignore all shooting attacks of S5 or less. S6 or more will kill them as they have no armour save.
If his infantry have Dark Lances, they can't shoot and move, as the DLs are heavy weapons.

Not all Dark eldar units are good at close combat.
You only really need to fear the lord, incubi and wyches. Dark eldar warriors are just guardsmen that don’t even have a close combat weapon.
So when he sets up his force make sure you know witch transports are holding his wyches and lord then make them a priority target.
If you are not playing a kill point mission I would suggest splitting any unit that can into combat squads. That way if he does get to you with one of his nasty close combat units, he will most likely kill all 5 of your marines on his assault and then be left hanging in the open during your shooting phase.
If you really want to piss him off take an allied grey knight unit and take a psycannon. One shot from that will kill his lord outright with no saves at all. I’ve had it happen to me before.
Lots of medium strength, multi-shot weapons. Heavy bolters, autocannons, and the like will win the day here. The vast majority of his units are made of paper, so a light breeze coming their way will put the hurt on. Stick with your vehicles, as his best weapon is only S8 so dual TLAC Dreads do quite well.
Stay mobile and shooty and you should be ok.

this is all great info. I did not think about how far he can move using the raider and fleet rule. i will focus turn 1 on taking out his raiders and ravenger with my MLs and then shoot apart his army. I think the biggest problem will be his hq and retinue which i will end up having to face in CC. hopefully i will have shot his army to pieces by then.
