With the new guard codex and boxes coming out soon I was thinking that I should rewrite the advice in my purchasing guard thread so it was nice and new. Obviously until I have the new codex and list of boxes available I cannot do this, however, I was wondering what people would like to see when I rewrite the thread, more of the same or any new bits in there like collecting different style armies etc.
So I put it to you guys give me your thoughts!
Thanks in advance
I have a thought you might want to add on to it
The rumour floating around now that the heavy weapons team must be displayed on those huge bases, many of us, not me ii haven't take the advice, have placed them on seperate bases to try and maxmize the efficiency of the heavy weapons in the box.
When the rules do come out, and this is an actual confirmed rumour, try to find a reasonable way for us veterans and old players who try to maxmize our army and lower the pricing on modifying this problem.
If not also try to make an effective way by analyzing each box set that comes out so you can give us a load out on what we can possibly make for special weapons squads and infantry squads and what not, so we can have a maxmize efficient use of the IG's weapons and what nots.
Anyway cheers for the fact you have continued to take a pressing matter on this.
"DID WE JUST SIGN UP FOR A SUICIDE MISSION, RICO?" "YEAH WE JUST DID, WHEN WE ENLISTED" LOVE THE IMPERIAL GUARD, JOIN TODAY!!
So much hinges on what the Codex says that it is neigh impossible to state clearly what to do. For all we know a good starter army might be 3 russes, a command squad and 20 men in chimeras /shrug
The only thing that won't change is that the Cadian Battleforce (assuming they don't screw it in May) is the best buy going for no-waste starter sets.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
But I really hope they wont do this to me. More because of the fact that they are useless in buildings (to big), in terrain (to big) and to play with generally (TO BIG!!), How am I supposed to get almost 30 heavy weapons in there when the bases are 2.6" across ?
A little conversion clinic, and hints and tips would be good - for example:
Platoon Officers - use the IG Tank commander off the sprue (We gotta see the new codex to see how many officers are required, and the variety e.g. if we'd be just using the new command box)
Heavy weapon teams - making ther most of your sprues. (Shoulder mounted missile launchers)
And a bit on the bases, when it's decided (Oh please for the love of god don't put them on those large monstrosities GW.)(p.s. I converted alot of my teams into shoulder/man portable teams to i'll be really narked off.)
Maybe a bit on squad assembly and easy conversions - For example being able to seperate squad A from Squad B as one has all bayonets, and the other doesn't (and add one to the base of your HW gunner with a converted knife on etc as appropriate. for the special weapons add webbing with or without bayonet to match rest of squad)
- and any reqwuired rules clarification with reference as a footnote would be nice (e.g. h.w. teams have lasguns, and refer to it in the dex if they will continue to do so.)
Maybe some hardened veteran conversion ideas to polish it off - e.g. as simple as catchan head swaps, to showcasing the F/W kits, SM scout conversions and converting necromunda gangs / scratch building shotguns (Guess we'll have to see the new dex again)
I'd love to help.

An excellent idea.
With regards the Heavy weapon bases GW are currently selling 3 60mm bases for £2.45. I plan on mounting my missile launcher troops on one of these when the new two wound team makes an appearance.
I'm quite happy (if you think it would be useful) to give some ideas on collecting the old tallarn models, where to get them and conversions for the stuff you can't get. i.e. medics, standard bearers etc.
A similair idea could be used for the valhallans, mordians etc.
Codex and first release is available for pre order next weekend (Source: GW UK mail order 13/03/09)
Finally getting round to finshing my Tallarn Imperial Guard Army (2K)
Everything else has been sacrificed on the Altar of eBay...
Thanks for the feedback guys. I work for GW so may be able to write some of this up so it goes out soon after release not before obviously as i need my job lol.
More info should appear after April 4th as thats the War of the ring release date. ( not to do the salesman technique but check it out esp the move trays for guard 8 men plus heavy weapon and 8 man move trays....)
Am recording all advice atm so should be all there in the new updated thread.
another question should i delete the old advice or simply rewrite the thread or move the old advice or something? I'm loathe to delete it (may be my archaeological side there) but any thoughts new thread or update?
