I was looking thought the codex making some lists up. The amount of options we have is overwhelming to the point it starts to get hard to work out what you going to take. Don't get me wrong I love marines it was my first army and I still come back to them time after time. When will it become to much?

probably the options will drop when their popularity drops. I doubt that their popularity will drop but who knows.
Yes, enjoy it.

I don't think so, personally. When I sit down to design a list, I have a very specific purpose of what I want to accomplish, and that means I have a pretty solid idea of the units that I need to take to accomplish that purpose. The Space Marines codex may have a ton of variety, but everything serves a mostly particular role (obviously not everything is a specialist unit, such as Sternguard, though they are specialised to a degree by being a mostly shooty unit).
I think you can design any type of list you want, be it melee or shooting or mechanised or drop pod, the list goes on, but I don't think the number of options available to us as Space Marine players makes it difficult to choose. At least, not for me.
If I was logical about collecting then I don't think the range of choice would be a problem, we have some excellent all round units for a generic list, and specific tools for every job if we know what we are up against. Lists can almost pick themselves if you list your oponents strenghts and weaknesses and pick the weapons that counter them.
However I'm not that logical. I like to make a model for everything in the codex I think is cool. I then want to include everything I've made in my army. Next result is a 6000 point army for a 1500pt game and some horribly hard pruning to to and that feeling of disappointment that I never get to use some of my favorite stuff.
Yes, the pruning of 6000+ lists for 1500 point games, its a constant struggle. I feel you brother. To think I'm thinking about getting more space marines. I'll never finnish my orks, hahaha!
