Ive stated in several places my new army im building will focus on light artilery etc providing cover from far back supporting masses of troops unfront. hopefully in chimera's
With the new trend in 40k becoing deep striking troops and other means of forces suddenly appearing places u persumed safe. Whats the most effective way of protecting them without sacrificing attack power.
If i leave units back to protect them im loosing fire power unfront and im known for not using many tank meaning i cant turn on the spot from distance and whack some fire down quickly close to the vunerable area.
What clever and inventive ways do u use to protect them?
I wouldn't necessarily call deep-striking the new trend, but the simplest and most apparent way is to use infantry shields; they won't prevent your artillery from getting destroyed by capable units like Dreads, but they will prevent that destruction for a couple turns.
Another way is to surround your artillery with dangerous and impassable terrain, such terrain will completely deter, or, at least, delay, the artillery death.
Another way is to keep them near the table corners because very few players are going to risk a botched deep-strike role and even if they do take the risk and systematically kill your artillery the deep-struck unit is now far enough away from the places on the board that matter to be pretty much rendered useless the rest of the game.
I'm sure there's been tons of discussion surrounding this topic, which is probably why there are no responses, so, do a search and see what turns up, I'm sure other players have better ideas than me as I have very little experience defending artillery, I'm more of a blitzkrieg front-line kind of guy.

Inquisitor with 2+ Mystics will do. Or if you do not use Elites even two. Maybe single lord and one regular.
