Hey guys, just wanted to see if I could get some feedback. I've been toying in my mind between whether a command squad or assault squad would be more effective for me in regards to assaulting. Either squad would most likely team up with the Captain HQ (which would have a jump pack if Assault squad is used). Beings I have the command squad models already, I just wanted to see if there were some good ideas to make them work well. Thanks all!
I honestly dont rate the command squad for assault. Given enough power weapons, they have potential, however they need to ride in a razorback in order to reach their target.
If you have a command squad on bikes, thats a different story
If you really want an assault orientated unit, burn lots of points and go for vanguard, else grab a normal Assault squad =)
Yeah I agree, if you're going to end up spending a lot of points on the Command Squad, you should just use those points for a Vanguard Squad. They can have power weapons and everything, and would be very effective if teamed up with your Captain with a jump pack. However, just between Command Squad and Assault Squad, I'd say go for the Assault Squad. I'm no expert though!

I've got a command squad and they're fun to use when i can find the points for them, which admitedley isn't very often. A captain with a relic blade, a bolter, and a command squad apothecary bolt pistol ccw, 2 veterans bolt pistols power fists, 2 veterans meltaguns. Sometimes a librarian (if i do this he's an epistolary) gets thrown in there as well.
Not very effective for their points but can put up a fight against the likes of a 10 man vanguard squad with a chapter master and a chaplain (after the vets were shot up a bit) or my friends death company with lematres and mephistion.

my commander has a combi melta and powerfist and rolls out with 5 sternguard, one combi melta one powerfist, in a razorback, they go hunting for things like Terminators, Tough Guys etc.
my main assault unit is uber expensive so i only use it in 2k points games but its
5 x Terminators, 2 with Thunderhammer and shield, 3 with twin claws, lead by Chaplin in terminator Armour in a LR redeemer!!! PWNAGE if it makes contact that is lol!!!!!!!

I used a squad of 20 genestealers vs a 10man Command Squad with Relic Blades, Banner, Champion, and Artificer Armor. I was thoroughly and completely destroyed.
Don't know if that helped, but i hope it did.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I definitely appreciate it!
Command Squads are better for assault. FNP, storm shields, and a bunch of power weapons help a lot. Stick them on bikes for mobility and you're good to go.
An Assault Squad is a cheaper alternative, while they won't be able to compete with bloodcrushers and nob bikers they can adequately fight off most enemies or finish off weakened foes.
And Vanguard are overpriced gimmicks. They = fail.
