is there any reason that i should take shooters in to a army . and if so what ones should i take
You need something to destroy enemy transports, so yes.
Land Raiders, Termies w/ tank hunters and dual assault cannons, cheap fire support Crusader squads, Speeders with multi-meltas, and the like.
Check out ==My== blog: www.bnhblog.blogspot.com
Don't forget to give every close combat crusader squad a meltagun. For the times when a power fist isn't enough.

i planed on having 10 initiates and 5 neophytes that way we can use a LRC for transport and support so would you give the melta flamer and such weapons to the neophytes?
I like a couple of shootie dreads in my army (usually roll 2 in 2k and under). These are nice to take out big and tough targets... and they rarely get targeted for some reason.
==Me== mentioned cheap crusader squads. These also help quite a bit. They help hold a flank, or defend and object in your base. The only danger is their "If I get shot... I go nuts!" rule, which kinda sucks.
As much as I love LRC and LRs... I find they always die in the first turn or 2 (damn them for being so big and appealing to shoot). Now you may say "great!" cause they wasted all that fire power on 1 target. The only problem is... now you lose 250+ points of stuff to kill their biggies.
So generally, for shooting I pick units that almost discourage the opponent to shoot at them, while my melee rushes their lines absorbing everything (and all dieing with my magnificent rolling).
ps. Bike squads are fun too. Toss them a multi-melta, and a melta gun on the normal bikes... and go to town. These will get targeted though.
