So with all the rumors flying around about what the Guard will be getting new, and how cool all of the tanks are, I feel that I have to say the following. The winning tactics will not change. That is, as mass of guns that hit hard half of the time, backed up by tanks that wreck havoc upon everything and anything it can hit. I see the biggest boon to the Guard being the 4ppm Basic Guardsman. Think about what this means for your platoons, and by extension your army. Automatically you take a 1/3 reduction in points on men, and this allows you to take expensive upgrades like a vox system, or lascannon. This also allows you to field more in your platoons or more platoons period. Conversely, if your a tank commander by choice, you can now put up some man portable fire support, or a human wall to defend against melta equipped/ tank busta units.
I posit this question unto you, how is this different then how the army works now? Sure we have new options, but will this change what you do to win? How will other armies react to us? I'm not sure, but I have a felling that not a lot will change. Anyone feel diffrent?

9 Hydras + 75 anti-tank armed Guardsmen for 1000 points.
Until I have a full listing of the Orders system and how it works, there is no way to properly answer this question.
For me, however, it is clear my tactics will dramatically change. I play Drop Troops. Since I will no longer be able to deepstrike onto objectives, everything for me will change.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
The points readjustment will finally allow for practical mechanized infantry companies for medium poit and standard games 1000-1850. as it stands right now my one mechanized platoon's standard squads cost around 168 - 170 points depending on the squad armament, with the chimera readjustment being rumored at around the ballpark of 55 points and fairly decked out at that 55 pts, and the new squad costs at around 50 points, my mechanized units are now only 110 pts so they got about 35% cheaper across the board.
So as I have it psuedo-planned a the moment I can mechanize my existing infantry by equipping them and their platoon HQ's with about 8 decently geared chimeras for ~926 points.
So how I have ~924 points for other goodies, if they keep the 1850 list as the norm.
Welcome to the new age, of Mechanization...
I've always played my Guard as a primarily infantry gunline backed up with heavy artillery; in this edition Mortars and Basilisks. The Gunline just slowly marches forward while (in theory) the enemy is pinned or scattered all to hell because of the artillery. If anything, this new edition gives me all sorts of new artillery and makes the infantry gunline cheaper, AKA so I can have more guardsmen and conscripts.
Well, it is hard to get too into it without having a codex.
But the IG Gunline is shaping up to be back and with bigger badder teeth.
Infantry Platoons + Tanks + Arty. Hell even through in some cheap Chimeras and you have a very solid force that can dish out a hideous amount of firepower. Most lists will easily be able to drop 6 pie plates a turn and have over 100 bodies on the table. That is some scary stuff!!
However, it will be interesting to see how "non traditional" builds work. There is a potential to field a lot of different types of Guard forces (and we really have not heard that much about all the SC!), but the question is, will they be cost effective?
I heard that Imperial Guns were getting nerfed and the units(men) are getting buffed to qoute

1500 pts. The "Steel Carpet"
9x Scout Sentinels + 9x Griffons = 990 pts.
510 pts. left for any combination of HQ & scoring units.

I agree with Reckless Fable, Orders are going to become an integral component of list design and functionality and until we know how the orders work we really can't say. But, with the reduced cost of the Chimera and our new and improved Fast Attack options we're finally getting some mobility. So, I suspect they'll be less standing and shooting until everything is dead and more standing and shooting until everything is soften up before moving in for the kill.
