ha ha played against vulkan mechanized list in annilation game on weekend he was in redeemer with 5 TH/SS termies i had a mechanized marine list.
I Immobilised the LRR he got out blew up empty rhino and headed towards my army centre i'd tied everything else up with DP dreads and tactical squads shot 1/2 army 2 tact squads vindicator and 2 typhoons no casualties.
Next turn he got closer just out of assault had empty razorback with hvy bolter thought why not tank shocked him he failed his tank shock and ran like a girl i just hearded him off with razorback and typhoon lol 5/6 not want you want on tank shock with termies.
With 390 odd points useless rest of army went down i had 17kp he had 10kp i killed 8 he got 5 was a slaughter if he didn't run but i wouldn't of been able to stop him wiping me out.
I wouldn't call him a wimp. it all depends on the luck of the dice. My last game it took everything I had to kill Nightbringer. it wasn't bad rolls it was my opponent rolling good, and when I did kill him I finally lost my dreadnought in hand 2 hand combat with it, I think it was turn 4 when I killed it.
in my apoc game, I was going against a titan, I would penetrate the shields but it would get them back, due to him rolling really well.
in most games I roll really good or so poor I want to show my models what a real flamethrower can do most of the times.
I have to say Vulkan is one mean killer, but thats just a lucky bounce for you. I mean, it could happen to anyone without a fearless squad.
I once used a rhino to tank shock a CSM Lord w/ lighning claws and 10 raptors off the board in a spearhead mission. The raptors were flanking my deployment along the long table edge. Opponent didnt realize thats his table edge he runs to when falling back, fell back off the board, lol

Vulkan's more than just a combat character though, put him in a flamer/melta heavy army and watch your foes BURN. Fun thing to see, unless you're the opposite player.
Like the possessed said vulkan has other abilities that can prove to be worth his points even if he does nothing for the entire game.
As always though the game will use dice and the dice gods are very fickle. There have been many instances of this especially with my guard, want to see ratlings beat a charging tactical squad in cc? 2 lasguns rapid fire all 3 wounds off a chaos termie lord? This is a game of dice.
IG Best Gen 1st overall of 10 DE 4th overall of 6
Eldar 3rd Overall/Best General of 26--2nd Overall/Best General of 7--1st Overall/Best General of 11
I play a character using Vulkan's stats, and he absolutely wipes the floor with opposition when properly used. Ork mob? Dead. Dug-in guardsmen? Dead. Tau? Dead. Most Eldar? Dead. Anything with a 4+ save? You guessed it dead. Plus, all the fun weapons in my army are twin-linked or master-crafted (HAMMER TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). A relic blade and digital weapons guarentee any T 4 model you hit is wounded (2+ and a Re-roll), plus that blade is master-crafted. put him in a Landraider withe a 5 man TT SS terminator assulat squad and he is basicly indestructable. He is the reason i win against orks almost alwase (Twinlinked flamers hurt them so easy).
lol thats what friend did 5 th/ss termies in redeemer drop pod melta guns are its only bane but but just shows a lonely transport can ruin 390 point plan as you watch it hearded of the field by tank and speeder
