Does anyone happen to know if GW are going to make us have to use 20mm bases for all HW teams in the new codex?
Probably will have to, smart money's on HW Teams being condensed into a single, 2-wound statline.
This does make things alot easier rules-wise, and will stop all the posts of people who don't quite understand/haven't read the FAQ... Although this does throw up a problem for many people with the old-style Teams, a quick rebase on some plasticard isn't beyond most of us, is it? Even keep one of the guys detachable to remove when you're a wound down.
FABRICATI DIEM, PVNC
Yeah, the leaked summary presents them as a single 2-wound statline, I think. If nothing else, it'd make the rules for them less confusing, so its a good thing (seriously, we're supposed to "imagine" them with regular bases? -.- ). Although GW doesn't always make things less confusing intentionally, its nice when they do.
"The sergeant major asked me what my job is. I told him it's to do what I am told. He gave me a medal. I like the Imperial Guard."
"Innocentia Probat Nihil"
Somehow, GW always manages to throw a monkey wrench into the cogs of my new army production. Last year, with rumors of IG being re-released, I decided to restart a new Cadian force, and decided to base my heavy weap teams on individual bases. (I use cavalry bases for tripod-mounted weapons, missile launchers and mortar teams simply stand with/beside their weapons.) While rebasing may be an option with simple paint schemes, I've committed myself to detailed bases and quality paint jobs, which don't lend themselves to tearing the models off their stands to rebase. I'll probably just develop templates to lay under the teams when the game starts.
Ya i'll probobly have to do the same thing as shashi. I wish they were their old 2 model teams though. I'll try to quickly think of some pros and cons
they count as 1 model potentially making blast weapons hit 1 less guy
easier for new players
We won't have to imagine bases under them
People with differently based teams (like me) won't like them
sometimes its better to move and fire with the 2 lasguns
less attacks when charging if no wounds had been inflicted on the heavy weapons team
So IMO the cons outweigh the pros, i'll see if we can get them house ruled as 2 guys where i play.
IG Best Gen 1st overall of 10 DE 4th overall of 6
Eldar 3rd Overall/Best General of 26--2nd Overall/Best General of 7--1st Overall/Best General of 11
Sadly, I doubt we'll see the Codex directly address this. Has any codex yet actually mentioned how to properly model anything? Base Size? The proper size for a mode not yet available? The height of a flying base?
It would be a huge shift for GW to actually come out and say something about the base size of HW teams or the height of the flying stand for the new Valkyrie. (I can't wait to see those arguements)
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
well, they're just adjusting the rules to what the model is supposed have been all this time. i think that the previous 'two models on one base for convenience' left it open for player interpretation and that's what caused the confusion.
i, also, have all my guys on separate bases: missiles on individual guardsmen and tripods on cavalry bases. but shrug, i'm fine with the minor inconvenience of remodelling (ie just magnetizing my bases to stick to the HW team base) if it'll fix all the previous game-wide confusion, and i think it will.
I'm planning on just painting up some 60mm bases to mount my indivudally based teams on.
GW are curerntly selling the three base packs on their website.
