Prepare Generic Platoons or Wait for Codex?

I'm stuck in a modelling/painting quandry. Last fall, with rumors of an IG overhaul starting, I decided to re-visit IG after selling my previous Cadian army that was modelled and painted to resemble WWII US Paratroops (thank you, Band of Brothers...).

I started getting back into the process by occasionally working on a "generic" platoon that I figured wouldn't be too twisted by any new codex rules:

    Plt Cmd Squad:
    Lt, laspistol and chainsword
    Missile Launcher team
    Vox operator
    Grenade Launcher

    2 x Line Squads
    Sgt, laspistol and chainsword
    Heavy Bolter team
    Vox operator
    Grenade Launcher

I'm finishing the paint job on squad 2, but here are links to the cmd and first squad:

OK, the big question is: would I be wasting time producing a second generic platoon in the same manner prior to the codex? Should I wait to see if the second platoon would be better off as a conscript/veteran/penal/new plastic stormtrooper slot?

I've got the Cadian trooper box to support a second platoon's creation, and ideally, I would simply go ahead and build/paint and then add to the collection as time goes on. However, time and money are very precious commodities, and I'd like to make sure I have a good plan for the progress.

Oh, and wahoo for post 50!

I had a look at the new codex recently and can tell you that this platoon is legal in the new list and quite a good design. It comes to about 190 points from memory.

By all means paint another platoon like this and you will still have plenty of scope to fill out the army with other goodies.

I'm at a very similar position.

    I've got:

    CYAN Platoon:
    CMND: LT, laspistol / chainsword
    4 vanilla Guardsmen

    FIRETEAM01:
    CMND: Sgt Laspistol
    8 vanilla guardsmen
    1 Grenade launcher
    1 Missile launcher

    FIRETEAM02:
    CMND: Sgt Laspistol
    8 vanilla guardsmen
    1 Grenade launcher
    1 Mortar

And I just picked up a box of Cadians and have put together a bunch with lasguns and a few with melta, plasma, and lascannon. Might turn them into hardened vets and load em into a Chimera. Just waiting on the new 'dex to finish filling out my army. Really looking forward to the new characters, orbital bombardments and psykers are dope.

yeah, I'm in the same boat. in the end i decided that these are the weapons i want in my guard army so i would end up fitting them in whether it was part of a dedicated squad or in the makeup of normal squads so i just went ahead and put them together. i may hold back a box of Cadians in reserve though just to make up the numbers in squads later on. nice painting btw. am trying to come up with a scheme for mine at the mo.

I'm on the same boat as well. I've picked up playing Cadians like a year ago, and I've made all my sergeants in the platoon line squads with lasguns. Has this been nulled now due to the fact that it is manditory for Vet.Sgts now, which might as well have a laspistol and hand weapon, or did i just fall off the boat.

Personally I would just use the box of cadians to add on 2 more squads to the existing platoon. That way you'd be pretty sure that you'd get to use them as one big platoon, with the cheaper guardsmen a normal 25 man platoon might be the same pts as the new 45 man platoon
    Most Notable Achievements:
Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.

Love the paint scheme, very smooth finish. Looks like the troops are all platoon based by the rumours, I would start preping up another command squad and 2 lasgun squads, if things don't work out htat way you can always fill out your first platoon and use the command somewhere else.
