I have an Space Marine Army consisting of
1 Chapter Master Power Weapon Storm Bolter.
3 x 10 Man Tactical Squads Lascannon and Plasmangun
2 x Devestator Squads 4 x Missile
1 x Predetor Autocanon and hvy Bolters
2 x Razorback lascanno & twin linked plasma Guns.
His Dark Eldar consist of as far as I can see.
1 tank with 2 disintergartors and Dark lance
3 transports each equipped with dark lance
1 x 10 wych squad
1 squad all armed with power weapons.
1 x beast master and squad.
He did have another squad that didnt unload.
1 x Archon.
How do I beat him I have now been beaten badly 4 times. Some help and advice would be welcome.
What is happening in the games? Are most of his units running up and CCing you to death? Is his ravanger taking out your squads or your tanks?
At first glance you don't seem to have much anti infantry fire power in your army and no CC units. Are you taking out his ravanger and raiders quickly? Since you have so many las cannons, MLs, and plasma guns I would expect you to be blasting apart his vehicles quickly.
Well he ignores my tanks for the most part and just concentrates on my infantry. You would think with all that anti tank that it would take out most of his vehicles. However he always moves 12 inches and I can only get glancing hits at most. As we set up first in most cases he hides his units and I don't get any clear shots until turn 2 and by then he's taken out most my squads with his disitintergrator fire.
hhmm sounds like you have a problem lol, personally iv never played dark eldar only eldar but i imagine they die very much the same.
Heavy Bolters- very good a taking out the basic foot soldier and more or less everything else, the only unit that doesnt lose an automatic wound is incubai (3+ save). Pack your tac squads with say 1 heavy bolter and maybe a melta gun to kill any hardcore close combat units he has. Defianantly split into combat squads to spread the hits.
you say he can move 12 well match him, try to get some assaults or even better some attack bikes armed with a mixture of hbolters and meltas.
Another thing you could do is keep some units in reserve and drop them in behind him when his troops move into firerange.
Maybe gets some lascannons in your dev squads, or just concentrate everything you have on one vechile till its dead then swap to a his transports.
Use cover, put your devs into cover as soon as possible, that way your most inportant infantry get a cover save against his disintergrators.
Atatch your commander to a tac squad, split it and run him up to the enemy or maybe try to flank, i use an annilator varient with optional heavy armour, heavy bolter sponsons and the twin las turret.
Whirwind might be another option lay mines and then blast his dark eldar behind.
Hope that helped, any other questions
Also dont forget all dark eldar tanks are open topped so if u hit them with a melta or basically anything they blow up. Deploy at the back of your deployment zone. Also avoid his incubi and prolly archon at all costs. Kill the ravager then the incubi transport dark eldar on foot are toast.
ahhh forgot about that, you see use blood angels would storm him with vet assaults and vape his ass up close and personal, but die quite alot in the process, realy just go by tactica, if the enemy dude rules at cc basically blow him away, yada yada yada
Thanks mate, I'll try the suggestions this weekend. By the way my Chapter is Blood Ravens if that makes any difference.
np, aahhh explains the flesh over steel at any rate,
good luck by the way
Well, having never played against Dark Eldar, I only know them through theory, but for what it's worth, the DE are at their best when moving fast and attacking you with surgical strike-and-fade assaults. They are counting on moving too fast for you to keep up and hitting as small a portion of your army at a time, with the entirety of their own forces. If their entire army concentrates on one of your squads, it will crack like an egg.
In order to beat them, you have to slow them down, make them fight a shooting war with you, and make sure you never hit them with only part of your own army.
My advice: "Turtling" is a little juvenile, and not terribly inventive, but it works. Now that we're in 5th edition, the cc "hopscotching" technique won't work anymore, so there's no chance of assault+massacre+consolidate-into-assault happening. Bunch your guys up together so they can support each other. This will make it much harder for your opponent to find an isolated unit. If you DO send one unit off by itself, use it as "bait" as part of your larger plan, because there's a good chance he'll go for it, especially if your unit goes "rogue" near the brunt of his force.
Also, make darned sure you're splitting up into combat squads, and use sacrificial lambs to keep the juicy stuff alive. For example, you have three tactical squads. Split them up on Turn 1, with the plasma-equipped squad acting as a counter-charge unit to protect the lascannon. This will keep the big guns alive long enough to hit the vehicles. The transports are open-topped (I think), so if you concentrate your fire, they WILL go down. I mean it -- focus EVERYTHING on one transport, all your lascannons and ALL your missiles.
If something does charge your gunline, throw a plasma-equipped combat squad at them, even if you think it will get munched. Do this for every tactical squad that gets charged. Yes, you'll likely lose that mini-squad, but that leaves the attackers out in the open, staring down the rest of your barrels. Again, concentrate your fire. This will force him to face the guns of your WHOLE army with one squad, which I bet is exactly what he's been trying to do to you.
You say he ignores your tanks. My guess is it's because you haven't done enough to force him to pay attention. You have lascannons. Use them, in CONJUNCTION with your other lascannons, to pick out ONE of his vehicles. Five lascannons (plus two krak missiles, hopefully), and it goes boom, I don't care HOW fast it is. The predator is a perfect anti-infantry machine. It should be positioned in such a way that it can lend fire support to your vulnerable units, and even tank-shock any ground troops of his that have any funny ideas.
Finally, remember that speed is their chief weapon. Don't worry about destroying the vehicles, just stunning/immobilizing them.
Thanks for the advice, I keep forgetting the combat squad rule. I'll try it out this weekend and let you chaps know the outcome.
