Within the next couple of weeks, given a time when the whole gang has off.. my friend's and I are having a little "reunion" tournament. There will be at least four of us, with the possibility of up to six, depending on whether or not two of our friends will be able to make it back into town..
We're playing random teams, and we may only use an army that is NOT ours.. So, I asked my friend if I could borrow his Sisters, and have been granted permission to use my Grey Knights as allies.. as I've never really played them very often..
First.. my list of possible allies.. and foes.. are Eldar (Shooty), Tau (Hybrid), Orks (Foot Slogging), Tyranids (Nidzilla or Dakka Horde), Chaos (???, I think mostly Khorne), Necrons (Phalanx, <= 2x Monoliths), or Imperial Guard (Ordnance).
Our lists will be 1,000 (3vs3) - 1,500 (2vs2) points each (depending on whether we have 4 or 6 participants).
The tournament will be three games (3vs3 or 2vs2) with random Missions and Deployment, and teams will be randomly generated for each battle. We're allowed to alter no more than 10% points ( either 100, or 150 ) of our army list after teams are decided.
Now.. my questions.. How the bloody hell do I play Sisters of Battle!! XD Hehe.
I have some idea, but first I would like to ask if there are any "must haves" in a SoB list? As an example, with Orks, every upgraded Nob within a mob of Boyz MUST have a Power Klaw and Boss Pole! It's da law! Are there any cases such as this amongst the Sisters?
Will a Mechanized list be effective? Or should I run foot-sloggers.. Or hybrid? I'm aware of the pro's and con's of each.. but I'm not sure which would be most effective..
Mechanized = Faster, Mobile, with the added support of Tank Shocking.. but at the expense of an additional Kill Point and fewer numbers..
Foot Slogging = Slower, but in greater numbers.. possibly detrimental since SoB are close quarters combatants..
I also have an Exorcist, and possibly a second, at my disposal.. I plan to run one at 1,500 points.. But what about the second? And what about at 1,000 points?
Also, depending upon points, I plan to run up to three Inquisitors (though likely no more than two) with Word of the Emperor.. to be attached to either a Dominion Squad, Retributor Squad, or a GK Purgation squad.. possibly mounted in an Immolator (With the exception of the Purgation)
I plan to run 2-4 SoB troops, and 0-2 GK squads. I intend for more of my points to be spent on troops, and only one or two squads to be specialized. I have at my disposal:
Sisters Repentia (10x), Seraphim (10x), Retributors (4x Heavy Bolters, I think 2x Multi Meltas), an Immolator, 1-2 Exorcist, as well as my own Grey Knight Terminators (5x), and Grey Knight Marines (10x, plus 4x Psycannons and 4x Incinerators) ... it's a very small force I bought a while ago.. only because it was for sale for $30 XD
Mm.. anything else? I can't think of anything, off the top of my head. Thanks in advance for the help!

Provided there are no problems with rhinos exploding or being immobilised, mechanised SoB squads are pretty potent when they disembark and unload on the enemy. My personal favorite is 10 girls (including a veteran), litany of faith, flamer, heavy flamer all in a rhino with smoke launchers and extra armour. Sometimes I equip the veteran with another flamer template (brazier of holy fire, flamer or combi-flamer). I see others replace the flamer with a melta for on-the-spot anti armour.
Exorcists are damn scary things and rightly so. D6 AP1 shots demand attention.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
Personally I'm a fan of foot sloggers. At 1500 points I will usually run 4 squads 16 deeps with either flamer/HF or flamer/Melta (depending on what I'm facing) with some seras, a jump cannoness and an exorcist or two. The seras keep everything busy while you march your sisters down the field, your cannoness can either tank hunt or swamp units and yout exorcists shoot down anything else. It works MUCH better in 5th with run because they can get across the field faster which means you will get more shots. Nothing like unloading 30+ bolter shots that can all become AP 1 PER SQUAD.
Something you should know since you're not usually a SoB player: Faith Points. They can turn the game around for you, but you gotta know when to use it, which may give you a hard time since you've never played them. The ones worth using are Divine Guidence (6 to wound =AP 1) and Spirit of the Martyr (adds an Invul = to your armor). The other ones are much more situational or are garbage. Only faithful units can use/provide faith so it's well worth to the points to upgrade to a VSS and a Cannoness and why adding an Inq to squads is a bad choice (non faithful units in a squad cause the unit to be unfaithful).
Ah! I did not realize that by adding in an Inquisitor would make my Sororitas unfaithful.. Oh well, there goes my plans of mud-holing the opponent into not being able to assault me while I unload shot after unmerciful shot into their heretical squads..
In lieu of this.. I do own a rather non-descript Inquisitor Lord, which could easily pass as Ordos Hereticus, just as easily as he could pass for Ordos Malleus. What are your thoughts on a Word of the Emperor Inq. Lord? I can see the potential of breaking a unit and chasing it down with my friend's Seraphim, not allowing them to regroup.
I do really like the Exorcist. I was considering fielding only one, regardless, simply because of my chances of being allier with Eldar, Tau, or IG.. would likely give us a little too much potent anti-armour. But on the same token, my chances of playing AGAINST either of those three, and indeed versus Necrons with up to two Monoliths.. I may just have to field the second, should my friend decide to purchase another before the tourney.
Here's my proposed set up for units.. Please let me know if I've got anything wrong
Sisters of Battle ( 215 )
+9x Sisters, Flamer, Heavy Flamer
+1x Veteran Superior, Bolt Pistol, Evicerator, Purity Seals
+Rhino*, Smoke Launcher
*Provided the points are available after the army list is complete, I will likely spend them to add a Laud Hailer.
As an avid Ork player, I see the Evicerator as a necessity to my unit. If and when they get stuck in, the added strength should likely prove devastating. Likewise, I've decided to run Mechanized.. and as such I highly value the added support of Tank Shocking! I think Laud Hailers would be fantastic for this purpose, considering I'm only likely to face one Fearless army (Nids), though possibly Eldar as well (with Avatar). I don't think the Orks will be seeing their way into this battle, so I needn't worry about their 'uge mobz..
I'm thinking four squads as listed above, as well as a Jump Pack Cannoness, ten Seraphim, and two Exorcist (provided he has two for me to use) This will flush out to 1,400 some points, allowing ample room for additional wargear.
If we're playing 1,000 points.. I will run three of these squads, a Jump Pack Cannoness and two Exorcists.
Thoughts? (And thank you again for your help!)
Purity seals are for seraphim hit and running away. Book of St Lucius is for sisters sticking it out in combat..
Don't forget extra armour on the rhino.
You may want to mix a melta or two into at least one of your mech sisters units, they are all kinds of useful.
