I'm going to play in a Tourney for the first time in a few weeks and have all sorts of crazy ideas running through my head. I have a fair amount of experience playing just nothing official. The tourney is a team game with each player having 1000 points. (2k a team) I'll be playing vanilla marines and my friend will be playing Eldar. We've decided to use mobility and all mechanized units as our concept for a list. Our core is pretty solid, 4 troop choices with decent support, Sternguard with a Librarian to kill stuff, Farseer casting support buffsetc.
But here it is, I really want to bring my Redeemer to the fight. I figure with a squad of guys in there, doesn't really matter which, along with the Falcon and Wave serpent we'll have a tight formation of armor and those nasty flamestorms to BBQ anything in range. I know its a risk but at that point value heavy units like that are going to be limited which makes me wonder if people will actually be able to counter it. I know it only takes one well placed melta blast to kiss the raider goodbye but it can also melt a whole marine squad with ease a turn.
As I mentioned I'm not familiar with the tourney scene and I'm not trying to make the one list to kill all others. If anything I'm trying to pick one unit that will be difficult to deal with that has a lot of killy power and keep up with Eldar skimmers being able to fire at least 1 weapon moving full speed. Having 1 raider between 2000 points isn't that big of a stretch but I would like to hear some oppinions specifically relating to tournaments. Thanks!
You are still playing a 2000 point game, so there will be things around to kill your LR. The nice thing with a LR is that at AV14, but that wont save you all the time. There usually is a counter, its just going to boil down to how you deal with your opponent's counter. Just know your game plan, its strengths and weaknesses, and set up accordingly.
It's a 2k game, so I wonder why you're only fielding one

Yeah I get that. I've pretty much decided to risk it since the rewards can be well worth it. The game plan is having all transports covering and close to each other. Skimmers are going to move flat out turn one to mask all the marine transports. If targets in range unload troops in turn 2. Raider pops smoke when needed to avoid unpleasant Melta fire.
If this goes poorly at least it will be a learning experience hehe.
If I were yu two I would each choose a role for your armies and make them mutually supporting without relying as much on eachother. Having a combined rush might not work out as well as you two will be bound to have disagreements-don't say it won't happen, me and my twin brother even do in team games.
