Hello everyone. I have in my possesion a large number of steel legion infantry and i was wondering, what with the release of the new codex and models, that i could use their models as paratroopers. I just want your guys opinion and see if it would make sense for paratroopers to be clad like steel legion. thanks for the input.
The Drop troops doctrine has been removed from the new codex so paratroops cannot be used. Air Cav can be done by making sure your men are all in valkyries etc.
Refering to your army as paratroops who landed before the battle and are now fighting on foot is fine and the steel legion models would be great for that. They have gass masks (oxygen for high altitude drops etc) and sturdy looking helmets so great.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
Mad cat hit on the fundamental point there, we cant do drop troops on pretty much anything apart from stormies now so game wise not going to have a great impact (reminds me must change my lists) as far as uniform it seems ok, coats around the right length folding stock lasrifles and brimless helmets all fit the bill!
Fluff wise yup seems good, game wise unfortunately you wont be able to do that am afraid!
I'd just like to remind that SLs are seemingly based on elite SS Grenadiers from second world war and that indeed was a paratrooper formation.
The SS grenadiers weren't a para formation they were a mechanised infantry formation supported by mobile infantry support (stugs that sort of thing) you are thinking of the falschimjaeger units which were used in Italy I do believe (well elsewhere to but thats where I specifically remember some).
However the equipment is of a decent similarity perhaps take inspiriation from several of these untis to create a unique paint scheme?
Which brings me to ask could you post up your list and fluff (if that is the angle you want to go) and we could see if we could help you out with the formation?
Hope that helps
you could do something similar to the Fallschirm-Panzer Division 1 Hermann Goring and have them mounted in transports
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

The Dutch Legion
If you want a great way to distinguish your steel legionnaires as paras, you might want to give them a camo as the fallschmirjäger indeed had one too.
oops got side tracked (love WWII) but yeah i think Steel Legions would make a pretty cool looking drop troop army or even airborne infantry in valks.

We who have seen war will never stop seeing it....In the silence of the night, we will always hear the screams....
