I'd like to ask those of you who play DA to stand up and give feedback on things like lists and how to beat certain armies. I don't mean to be rude it's just that I'm tired of seing Blood Angel lists with like 8 replies, and Dark Angel lists with 0. I quit playing Blood Angels for a reason! Now I play DA for the challenge they offer (mostly due to the fact that SM are cheaper). Since i have both codexes I like to go both ways with my DA army, a side note.
All I'm saying is some suggestions/feedback would be great.
Perhaps if we all get together we can make our own hallowed hall of heroes on LO. =)
I started building and playing my Dark Angels about 6 weeks ago, but here is the catch. I am not using Codex: Dark Angels, I am using the Space Marine codex. I own the DA codex, but I don't really like it that much. Maybe after I get my first 2500 points built I will start playing with the DA codex. Right now I am in an escalation league and building up 500 points each month and I am loving the Space Marine 'dex.
Here are my tactics: Massed fire. High mobility. Lots of armor. I am dropping 3 pods with sternguard, tac and ironclad. I have a tac squad in a rhino. I have a thunderfire, a librarian, 5 TH/SS termies, a landraider and a vindicator. My HQ is not DA, it is Vulkan H'estan. Hey, at least he is green!!! At 500 and 1000 points I also ran bikes, painted up as Ravenwing, but I am dropping them at 1500 and 2000.
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
The DA codex sort of needs special characters to be effective. The only effective DA lists I have seen were Ravenwing and Deathwing based armies. They are generally inferior to codex marines if they go vanilla mechanized. For tactics try to find battle reports involving DA in 5th edition. Good luck with your marines with cooler fluff.
Ave Dominus Nox!
Here's the thing, I use the DA codex, for greenwing, ravenwing, deathiwng, multi-wing etc. Just because it offers a hell of a challange in game, most of the time at least.
I'm an 8 year 40k vet I got tired of winning is all (scary eh?) I sold my Iron hands and dwarfs (for WHF) and started DA. I'm now around 6000 points and growing.
It's actually fun!
I've just started to play W40k and chose the Dark Angels because of their background (fluff). Then I've realized that the DA codex is a subset of the SM codex with higher point costs. Now I'm trying to find something which is in DA codex and isn't in the SM codex (where it's almost always cheaper).
So far I've found that the combination of Deathwing Terminators and Ravenwing squads can be the way to go. The Deathwing assault rule in conjunction with the Ravenwing bike rules (teleport homer, scout) may be interesting. On addition these units are fearless (SM version grants only successful regroup).
Here is an example of a small army:
Belial total 130
Deathwing Terminators total 250
- Deathwing's Company Standard
- Heavy flamer and chainfist
Ravenwing Attack Squadron total 175
- Attack Bike (Multi Melta)
- Flamer
Tactical Squad total 210
- 5 Marines
- Missile launcher
- Rhino
Tactical Squad total 235
- 5 Marines
- Flamer
- Multi-Melta
- Meltabombs
- Power weapon
- Rhino
I use the Vanilla book normally, but now that I'm playing DW and Doublewing more I'm using the DA book.
