    special weapons for space marines

    Just got the new Space marine codex. Looking through it i don't like the fact that you have to have 10 marines before you even get a special weapon. I can understand getting heavy weapons at ten but to have ten marines for a special weapon seems stupid. Who thought up that stupid rule. You can have 9 marines in a squad but no special weapon. It forces you to have ten marines to even be able to take out some armour or other things. A scout squad can get a missile launcher or heavy bolter at 5 models, but superior space marines can't get a special weapon? Just my opinion.

    I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy.

    Combat squads exists so you can do this while not min/maxing.

    i understand the balance issue, but other codexs allow a special weapon with 5 guys. like i said i understand having to have 10 for a heavy weapon but a special weapon is allowed in other codexs. and i have been playing for 12 years and know the past was out there with wacky stuff, but it doesn't seem to wacky when others are allowed something that you are not.

    Yes, but those codexes don't get those weapons for free/at a discount, nor do they get as many of the useful (and under-appreciated, imo) things that Space Marines get (combat tactics, ATSKNF).

    Remember, the Codex: Space Marines is all about the Codex Astartes and those chapters that follow it diligently to the letter. Is it really a surprise that in order to get the most out of it, you have to follow the fluff?

    yeah i dont think we should complain if were getting flamers, missile launchers, heavy bolters or multi meltas for free. Would you really want it the way you want them and pay for it? If you do, you can always play dark angels or blood angels.

    I was frustrated myself when I first got the codex. I often use a fully deepstriking army and have found heavy weapons are of little use. You may remember that the last codex could allow you two special weapons in each tac unit provided you paid for it as a heavy weapon.

    Thats gone......how anoyed......VERY.

    But then I read the rest of the book and realised that it was a small sacrifice for the ammount of extra amazing stuff. Lots of it our enemies can't do.

    1. Deep strikes that don't deviate
    2. Units that can take out all but the heaviest of tanks in cc.
    3. Units that can fire all the time with even as they close into combat.
    4. STERNGUARD
    5.VANGUARD.......................need I say more.
