I don't have a WH codex yet and was curious as to if it's possible to take a squad of Penitent Engines as allies for my DH army. I'm pretty sure I would also need a Priest to do this, but that's no problem. Thanks in advance.

If your using WH as the allies then, no, because penitent engines are a heavy support choice. Page 25 of the WH codex, when/if you get it! there you'll see the rules for using WH as allies what section of FOC you can and cant use and the numbers etc.

But if you make WH your base army with DH allies, then yes you can (although that limits the DH you can use rather severly).
Whitchever army you use as allies you cannot take anything from that list for heavy support. In this respect WH and DH are the same rules, just read them on your codex...
