At long last Ogryns now have a strength and toughness of 5, so they can no longer be instantly killed by most anti tank weapons or battle cannons. Not to mention they now got furious charge and a weapon that’s basically a burst cannon with no AP.
All this for the same pts cost as a marine terminator, I feel a unit of 6 in a chimera would be quite devastating but I thought I’d see what other guard players thought of them first before I start converting?
So what do you think to them now? Are they now a unit that can rampage through an enemy’s lines and protect your own line effectively or are they still not worth their weight in points?
Too expensive for what they do, in my book. Ogryns were an under-powered and rarely used unit in the old codex. They addressed this by making some positive changes (toughness 5 and the Ripper Gun). Furious Charge doesn't count as an improvement because they reduced the Ogryn's initiative and removed the special rule about their gun giving them +1 strength in close combat. They're the same on the charge, weaker in subsequent turns, so that's a nerf. Considering the unit was underpowered, it would have made sense to keep them the same price as in the old codex (making them quite good, and actually encouraging people to buy the ridiculously overpriced models) or only go with a modest increase. Instead they jack the price up more than 50%. And Ogryns remain an under-powered, and likely rarely used unit. Plus they still can't get any sort of power weapon attack.
So no, I'd rather have the toughness 4 Terminator with 2+/5+ save, a storm bolter, and a power fist (or even better, thunderhammer and storm shield!) than an Ogryn. One Ogryn costs almost as much as an entire squad of Guardsmen. They should be better than they are for that price. At 30 points, I'd have given them a shot. At 40 points each, I'd rather have 4 Rough Riders for every Ogryn, or use a tank for my "counter-charge" needs. The Banewolf should do real well splattering an enemy assault squad that hits your lines and wipes a unit.

If you want a real counter attack unit.
Take a squad of GKT, and put them near Straken
GKT with Furious Charge and Counter Attack
I agree, the S5 is pretty cool but not for the point cost
Still too expensive, no power weapons, no Priest, and AP- guns.

If they had feel no pain.. then they might be worth taking. Still not worth it. I'd rather take a psker battle squad, and 2 squads of strom troopers, or ratlings instead. Maybe take nork as a bodyguard though, he is good for the points.
Overpriced, for the same points of three Ogrins y rater buy a Vendetta or a squadron of 3x Scout Sentinels with heavy flamers or autocannons or a veteran squad with 2x plasma guns, a heavy flamer and an autocannon.

Vs space marines and their "i choose to fall back so its not worth firing at me" rule, ogryns are suckage. however, i will be taking them for the simple fact that they dont really fear orks.
orks need the charge to stand a chance, and if the ogryns get the charge, they will be nasty.
Toughness 5 is a big thing. against fellow imperial guardsmen, ogryns will be horrible. Against space marines in close combat, they will be generally unpleasant. And they can soak up more fire than a valkyrie.
1 strength 9 lascannon shot causes a single wound to an ogryn. it can potentially destroy a valkyrie with not much extra.
