I just got a Whirlwind upgrade in the mail and was wondering if it matters which of the two missile variants I use when building it. Can I pick the pieces with five missiles and use them as both Vengeance and Castellan Missiles, or is it a one or the other type deal? Also, am I able to switch which type I use on a turn to turn basis, or does it not function in the same way that say Sternguard ammo would? One last random question before i go. I like the look of the Storm Bolters on some of my armour but I don't really want to use them when I play. Is it legal to have them physically attached to the unit, but not using them, or counting them against your point total? Thank you for your time.
Basically missile wise it depends what your playing some people would be strict and say WYSIWYG most people don't mind. and you have to use the same type of missile for the whole game. as for storm bolters again WYSIWYG comes into play. I normally put what makes my model look cool and as long as I have the actual things i count on it for points it doesnt matter what i have extra
You pick which variety of missile to fire every turn a la Sternguard if using the Vanilla Codex.
As for the storm bolter, just don't glue in the hatches. For my Razorbacks/Rhinos I am able to just remove the front hatches and replace them with storm bolter hatches when needed. Makes it easy for swapping between tank variants.
So, to sum things up. I should be able to take things and not count them in my point lists if I don't intend on using them and in doing so I should not bother too many folks out there, save the random, not so friendly person, who I probably would want to avoid playing in the first place. If I was trying to claim a model holding a heavy bolter was actually holding a plasma cannon well, that would be a different story. Works for me Thanks for clearing things up all.
