After reading my other post on building a 1,500 pts sisters army i got the impressionn that overall people like the Immolator (there is a least 2/3 of them on this list) and because my personal experience with them is not very good I was just wondering...
Usually on my games, the best ever performance i can expect from my Immolator is to creep him along out of sight, then when finally in range it will move the 12" and shoot the flamers, Immolate most/all opponents (usually I play IG or Eldar) and get destroyed the following turn.
This usually does not make it a good points comeback and that's on a lucky day.
Since so many of you have included them on your squads I got the impression that you have some success with it... would you please let me know how do you use your Immolators?
I usually bolt both of my Immolators straight for the enemy lines one on each flank. If I happen to be within line of sight on my way up, I pop smoke to insure my survival. My opponent usually doesn't destroy my Immolators, but he does shoot at them.
I have three uses for them:
a) Against mob armies, especially orks, I race them down the centre filled with either dominions or celestians armed with 2 (or 4) flame throwers and they just burn up a whole squad. They also tend to survive.
Armed with multimeltas use them against fast moving (or reckless) armour of the opponent, especially tau. If I don't get first turn they tend to get destroyed there and then, but since I deploy them next to an exorcist, the latter will hopefully survive out of sight until my next turn.
c) As a mobile firing platform with heavy bolters and retributors, but I do this rarely since I'd rather use the points for something else (that's why I recommended removing it in the other thread).
Hope this helps!
I have an Immolator I always use it for my HQ i load it with double Multimeltas and the celestians inside are armed with meltas too. This Helps tank destroying a little bit being we dont have a eral stong tank destroer other then the exorcist. but now that I start inducted Ig im starting to really like the lascannons!
Hella useful as it fires twin-linked multimeltas on the move, something that our infantry toted multimeltas can't do.
One of the best weapon platforms we have, though I have a preference for the Exorcist.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
One thing I would really like to know is what is the life expectancy of your Immolators.. is it just me geting it busted by turn 2 or 3 if i'm luky????
That sounds about right.
In honor of all of you who do use the Immolator I will be playing a game tonight with my own flamie carrying 5 dominions (2 meltaguns & 1 flamer) and my canoness with blesses weapon, cloak and rosarius.....
Lets see how they do and I'll tell you all tomorrow, wich me luck...
Nothing is more satisfying that hooning up to a enemy squad in an Immolator (and within it my Canoness with Celestian bodyguard with a Heavy Flamer and two normal Flamers), jumping out and giving them 3 Heavy Flamer and 2 normal Flamer templates. Nothing is left standing after that.
Power Armour or not, my mate's 8-man strong squad of Khorne Beserkers were not there when the smoke cleared .
How exactly do your celestians carry a heavy flame thrower and two flame throwers? That's above the limit. And how do you get 3 heavy flame thrower templates? Maybe you should go over the rules again.
