Is it possible, to take too many plasma/melta weapons in your force?
I was thinking on taking such, on my tactical squads, and ICs.
I will, however, take some lascannons, carried by marines/predators/etc.
So, is there a thing as "too much", or is it an idea trying to be planted by a "xenos" mind?
I thank you, in advance, for your opinions.
There's never too much. As long as you have enough to handle tanks, hordes, and everything in between.

The problem with an all Plas/Melta force comes when you need to take down hordes. 3 rapid firing plasma guns and 4 plas cannons makes a mess of MEQ's, but against masses of, say, ork boys, you'll struggle to kill enough. Flamers help, so perhaps a plas-cannon/heavy flamer Dread would help a little.
FTR, Multimeltas are more than enough to take down tough vehicles, so consider autocannon/heavy bolter loadout on preds to get that anti-horde kick as well =)
There are never enough plasmas and meltas
...however, (i know, there's always one of these)
You have to keep in mind the balance of the army. too many points one a few powerful shots paired with too few points on bodies in your army and number of shots in general will put you at high risk versus massive horde armies. Also, with less bodies in your army, each casualty has that much more of an effect on you army during a game.
Yes...Hordes...I keep forgetting about that.
I play against one horde force. Its a Nid swarm.
Think I'll throw some flamers/heavy bolters in there, as well.

Give me 3 things:
1- More plasma
2- More melta
3- More cowbells! Not necessarily in that order.
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
OH MAN this guy has it down pat aye best advice you can followThe problem with an all Plas/Melta force comes when you need to take down hordes. 3 rapid firing plasma guns and 4 plas cannons makes a mess of MEQ's, but against masses of, say, ork boys, you'll struggle to kill enough. i used to field a plasma pistol on Vet sergant flamer and lascannon or plasma pistol on vet. plasma gun and plasma cannon/multi melta in every squad and against hordes ur foot sloggers die hard lol. but i would like too add to the above quote if i may:
doing a new army i bought a devastator box a tactical box and a cpombat squad box. BRILLIANT IDEA the Dev. box comes with 8 heavy weapons 1 missle launcher, 1 H. Bolter, 2 Multi Meltas, 2 Lascannons and 2 Plasma cannons so i made 2 veterans with bolters/power weapon incase any pesky hordes got too close. made all 8 heavy weapons troopers and the rest with bolters then combat squade the lot on the field so 4 5 man squads all with 2 heavy weapons in each add a predator bang theres heavy weapons sorted or get 3 dev. boxes and 2 combat squad boxes and ur set. u can never have too much plasma guns as they rapid fire melta guns r short range and good for assaulty armies if u follow?
but no u cant have too many just dont expect to shoot down to many hordes
Ok, I get it now.
I need to mix the "muilt shot" weapons, in with the "one-hit wonders".
Hopefully, I will be posting a force list soon.
