So, in my venturing around the internet, it seems to me that the basic (standard) SoB color scheme is black armor with red robes.
Although, I must admit that this scheme looks really really good. I think it is a bit played and cliche at this point. I mean, isn't the whole reason that we are playing WH in the first place is to be different than everyone else?
As I was driving around today, I was thinking to myself about what the WH's are and how they might act if they were really around. I keep coming back to the idea of the crusades. A bunch of crazed faithful killing people in the name of God. My other thought is of the classic nun, black robes etc.
I think that I really like the crusader idea better so I was thinking of going silver armor with red cloth. I am not really sure what color to go on the backpacks or the guns. I'd probably paint the guns a standard gunmetal color.
How did you guys pick your color scheme? I saw a really nice army with black armor and blue robes at my local hobby shop. I don't want to blend in too much... but it looked really good.
Any pictures of your armies would be awesome.
I think I chose my colour scheme (although I'm yet to actually paint a miniature using said scheme) by just picking a colour I wanted to use.
I chose purple, for some reason, probably because it seems a fairly uncommon colour for armies. It's also, in the past, been associated with royalty and nobility, because of the difficulty in producing purple dye. but anyway, I'm getting off topic.
So I picked the main colour, and then just elaborated over that. It's not that I don't like the colour schemes presented in the codex, but I'd just prefer to use something of my own devising.
Full scheme (as intended)
Heraldry/Colours: Black Armour (white trim), Purple robes/tabards (white edging), White Gloves
I intend having a bit of white edging or piping (I don't really know the correct name of it) on the purple tabard, but the painter I used doesn't quite accommodate that.
Hi Fizzics, I believe there is a silver armor order called the Order of the Argent Shroud, but I've never seen anyone do it, so you'd still be pretty unique Metallics for the power armor is neat, it's just super ceramite plate armor anyway, isn't it? I'm going to do my celestians in gold with Bretonnian blue and red sleeves.
Deadstar_MRC- Thanks for sharing your picture, Royal Purple looks good on the Sister! The white edging will make it look classy.
Most of all, I wish you both enjoyment and relaxation as you paint May the Emperor inspire you with visions and dreams!
I wanted to make a really rich, Orthodox church-like colorscheme, so i went with bone armour, purple robes and gold detailing, it really works rather well!
All that black and red is a bit too much penetant for me, i wanted something more baroque.
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

The Dutch Legion
Drybrushed green. Why? It's easy. My Canoness is black and gold with red robes though, and my Inquisitor is purple and blue with a pimp stick.

I tried the white and red....white armor is a PITA to paint and way beyond my skill set..

I went with Bone armor and black robes with Brass and gold highlights.
I wanted something that had old-school Inquisition look. I looked at the Dominican Friar habits for inspiration, and put Yellow Crosses on my penitents.
primarily because I always liked the Albigensian crusade, and thought that bone/black looked cool. It gave me some historical feel, and ideas to work with.
