After reviewing a few factors of the new IG list, I started thinking about what something fiercely competitive would look like. While there are quite a few cool/interesting units and characters, I was thinking about what I would bring to a tournament with the expectation of doing well or winning.
Overall the lists I looked at all ended in a similar fashion. The first thing to go in the list was 3 individual Vendetta Gunships. Respectable armor, strong tank hunting, Fast, and a transport?!?! SOLD! Accompanying is an infantry platoon of bare bones, a cmd squad and 2 infantry squads. Maybe a special weapon, but if all goes well these guys aren't even setting foot on the battlefield, they are just there to make the Vendettas scoring.
Second i was looking at firepower. Lots of interesting options, but points is a strong consideration as is AV. I need something to keep my opponent from singling out my transports, so the artillery is out. For the Russes, there are lots of options, but many are niche variants. In the end I decided on 2 individual exterminators with PC sponsons. This gives 5 Plasma templates a turn stationary and 4 while moving, enough to take out whole squads with ease. You could even run a stubber or hull LC is you have the points.
The rest of the army is infantry in Chimeras with Heavy Stubbers. The infantry have Lascannons and, where points allow, plasma and meltas. The infatry aren't willingly leaving their vehicles in an ideal game.
overall Strategy. The concept is rather simple, the Executioners and Chimeras form a gun line with infantry firing from hatches while Vendettas stay at range and stalk enemy armor. When the enemy closes on the gun line, the chimeras and Executioners scatter moving as slow as they can while staying out of charge range to maintain the volume of fire. In latter turns of the game, the Chimeras and Vendettas make runs on objectives. The Vendettas can also do an airborne drop on one objective while heading to another if you position it well. In kill points you force your opponent to pop AV12 to get any KPs.
The build in general packs some solid punch while still being mobile enough to seize or contest objectives near/in the enemy's deployment zone. I'm liking the idea, but at this point it is just theoryhammer. Any thoughts?
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
I vote Yes! to the mechanized with executioner support and triple vendettas.
I've discussed a whole range of army lists here:

I prefer Vets in the Vendetta. Better BS, more special weapons, still scoring.
Not a fan of the Executioner to be honest, with such a threat people will be going for cover and then you may as well be running a normal Russ. ==My== favorite so far is the Eradicator: S6 AP4 no cover means death to anything.
Hydras are probably one of the most cost-effective Heavy Support choices. A Battery of 3 dishes out 12 twin-linked autocannon shots that ignore SMF and turbo-boost. A perfect counter to Mechdar (spiky and original recipe) and the IG air cav armies.
This is true, and either one really works. You get what you pay for with a Vendetta, scout, fast skimmer, grav chutes, 3 TL lascannons and the blasty parts.
