So whats everybody's feeling on the sentinels in the new dex. Will you be fielding them and if so what variant and weapons?
Lets go massacre something
I am a sexy shoeless god of war!
I think I may give both squadrons a try in the future and see which I like more. Of course, if they both perform well I may need to take a squadron of both!
I mean, while yes, Vendettas are made of pure awesome and are descended from the heavens to possibly score (Assuming their hull is within 3" of the objective you're trying to hold, what with the larger flying base) and kill tanks and transport and stuff, I just can't seem to dislodge the image of some walkers advancing up a grim, cratered battlefield, with bullets zinging past them and pinging off their fronts to fire off a couple shots from my head, or in the case of Scout Sentinels, advancing through a forest to fire off an autocannon or multi-laser.
Oh right, and fully-articulate legs. 'Nuff said about that, I'll leave the possible poses and basing options up to you...
Space Marines: W15/L7/D3
Imperial Guard: W6/L4/D0
I'm probably going to field one scout sentinel with a heavy flamer, and one armored sentinel with a plasma cannon. They're fairly vulnerable, but I'm probably going to have 3-4 other vehicles with 12 front armor so they'll have to choose to shoot the plasma sentinel or the horrible flying death machine with the TL lascannons, or the chimeras filled to the brim with meltaguns.
- They've gone cheaper and it outflanks!
- I'll be using more to get a flank shot at enemy armor. Especially with the advisor that can reroll the side they come in.
- If objectives placed near the sides, they can come in and charge the enemy troop choice guarding the point and contest it. It is hard to kill an av10 open topped vehicle.
- Massive firepower boost, cheap way to get some plasma cannons
- Can be used to tarpit enemies that get too close to your objectives, av12 is only penetrable by a powerfist or some crazed MC

I intend to run a cheap squadron of three Scout Sentinels with multilasers, nothing fancy. I see them as a cheap way to boost my vehicle numbers and put pressure on the other team. Nobody wants to see 100+ guardsmen and 10 vehicles.
They should've allowed a sentinel to be attached to an Infantry Squad. That way I might have used them. Given that Fast Attack is actually a really loaded section for Guard now, its not likely. Putting Armored Sentinels in Elites would have given them a lot of play, considering the Elites section is rather weak (Psykers are great, Marbo could be fun, Ratlings are okay, and Ogryns/Storm Troopers suck).
You can say that armored sentinels are "cheap plasma cannons," but you can buy a pair of plasma cannon sponsons for a Russ cheaper than a single Armored Sentinel. Scout Sentinels are a bit cheaper and I'd find them useful if they didn't have to compete with Valkyries, Vendettas, Bane Wolves, and Rough Riders for other options.

So far in every game in vassal I've used them, I've successfully used armored sentinels to tarpit for me. It's been really, really useful. The closest other thing to a tarpit unit are ogryns, and 3 ogryns cost more than two armored sentinels and considerably less durable.
I was actually gonna use Sentinels to represent some Armoured Cars.
I think the Scout Sentinels are better for them with the "scout" and "move through cover" rules.
Not sure on the weapons though. I'm leaning toward sticking with the cheapness of multi-lasers, but I am tempted by the possibility of missile launchers or autocannons.
"But courage which goes against military expediency is stupidity..."
Sentinels featured in pretty much every list I ran in the current codex, they won't feature at all in my new mech list. They are good but they are competing with Vendettas for FA slots, shame we can't have them as CC support as in the current dex.
