The title says it all. Which army uses RR the most -- both in standard list composition or fluff wise? Do any IG armies have special rules for roughriders? What other units would you use to support RRs? In 1000 points games, can you effectively field RRs? How will 4th ed. affect them? Any other opinions welcome.
Thanks for your time,
if u go to the GW web site you can see the rules update and i dont think it will effect them that much, one of the armies that uses them a lot are the tallarn desert raiders, none of the other main forces use them much really (not sure about the ones fluff wise)
Death Korps of Krieg and Savlar Chem Dogs both use Rough Rider squadrons extensively.
Don't forget the Atillan Rough Riders. They are perhaps THE Imperial Rough Riders! (Fluff wise they pretty much have EVERYTHING on horses!Originally posted by serpentine@Aug 8 2004, 16:23

Yeah, but atilla isn't an IG army. In the back of the IG codex, however, there is a list of different armies and their typical troops types. They should be in there.
As a very specialised troops type that they are, Rough Riders are usually placed in support of other armies and their main forces. A regiment of Tallarn riders will be divided so that a certain number of squads will be allocated to diferent detachments so as to complement each troops strengths.
On the other side you will have certain armies with a over the average number of Rough Riders as mentioned before.

Yep, I got to take a look at an IG codex and I must say I believe the salvar chem dogs are pretty close to what I want. Now I've been informed they do have specific rules somewhere, where can I find those? What do you guys think about having some ogryns in a chim supported by a squad of RR(Is this viable at 1000 points)? Also what models would I use for this army because I cant seem to find anything but catchan or cadians on the GW site...
Thanks for your time,
yeah thats viable in a 1000pts, you might have to cut down on some other stuff such as armour but if your going for a cc army it should make up for that, not sure how well its gonna work vs other cc armies such as DA though......
The Savlar chemdogs don't have any rules beyond the IG codex to my knowledge. So just pick that up and you're set.
Well I think I found some rules in the 2003 CA, but I am unsure if these are still legal...Originally posted by serpentine@Aug 9 2004, 12:19

Just out of ignorance and curiosity I was wondering which deviant lists besides standard codex IG are still legal currently? For instance Krieg, ChemDogs, Esl. Droptroops, Catchan, ect.
Actually, Tallarn rather caught my eye after I saw their old RR models, but then I realized that the models are only available in the collector’s section of the GW site and pretty expensive. It's a shame because I like the models...
