BIG ARMY WITH LESS MODELS but good weaponary
small army with MORE models but bad weaponary
Hey wondering what you guys think!!
For example a 1500 point space marines army
Would you rather make an army that is small with less models or BIG withe MORE models
This is a question the is hard for me, I want poples opinions.
Yea I'm completely lost in regards to the poll options.
I prefer bringing the best weapon choices, while aiming for some balance.
Keeping in mind, saving points for the dreads/tanks/etc.
That being said, my forces have a bad habit of being small/out-numbered.
about to start up an army, having previously played IG, i'm more interested in low model-count forces with heavy guns and armor. edit: so i'm in the works on starting a deathwing army. something that won't take nearly as long as my infantry guard used to... plus that whole badass visual appeal of big guys with big guns.
With the current rules regarding the capture and control of objectives, large squads sizes are necessary. Even though you are playing marines, one of the toughest armies in the game, they still can be isolated and killed.
Because of this, I run cheap tactical squads, no more than 250 points. Each squad is 10-men and the sarge has a power fist. I mount them in a rhino so they can hop on objectives quickly. Combat squads, free weapons, and flexibility make tactical squads one of the most dangerous units in the game. If you're opponent see's a wave of tactical squads in rhinos adavancing on them, they'll have a big dilemna of what to shoot.
This is not taking into account other aspects of the Marine army. Missile Launchers are great, but they're not 100% effective against AV13 vehicles. This is why middle ground between a large army is key. To counter this, I field 5-man Sternguard Veterans with 2 Lascannons. That unit can pretty much handle anything it is put up against.
In my 1500 point list, i have 55 models. I find this to be a nice sized army with very good firepower. As to the poll question, I'm going to have to say larger army only becuase it gives your opponents more targets, spreading his fire out more. This gives key squads a better chance to survive.

in 1500 have at minimum 40 marines. minimum. At least 2 Tac squads (Hehe), a antitank specialist unit, an anti infintry specialist unit, and maybe another type of specialist unit (Usually based around killing other specialist units). Devastators with 4 missile launchers are very popular, and very useful. they can operate as both anti tank and infintry. I'd alkso tag some special/heavy weapons on your tac squads (They're cheap). I also recommend sternguard. Sternguard are bloody fricken awesome against everything but tanks, and they can be upgraded to be sufficient against tanks too.
May the Emperor forgive you, for his servants cannot.
