Assault Squad (BA)
Grey Hunters Pack
Blood Claws Pack
Battle Sisters Squad
As Adeptus Astartes players (whether codex or variant), we collectively have access to a number of troop choices across our different codices and army lists, including some inquisition forces as allies.
Question is, what does everyone think is the best troops option? A very important question and discussion I think, with the importance of troops in 5th
And please give reasons
codex scout squads, because they are the one troop choice that benefit from scout rules
tactical squads, because can split into combat squads
grey hunters, because they have true grit
As the choices come from a number of different army lists, feel free to give context as well (ie. the rest of the army available in that codex). Just try not to turn it into a discussion on which codex is better. Keep it about the troops choices.
Also, you don't necessarily have to just vote for whichever army you play. For example you can be a Black Templars player, but really like the Black Templars because ot their elite or heavy support options, but when it comes to troops, rather think tactical squads would be a better choice for its versatility, and not being subject to as much unpredicatbility (being forced to charge at the enemy). The point is, please think about this objectively.
I am biased towards SWs, but the ability to put 3 pwrfist/wpns in a big squad with a crazy charge bonus is awesome! Grey Hunters are also awesome though.
Scout squad, for many reasons:
Can infiltrate onto objectives
Can take stealth (camo cloaks) - stick 'em in a building with an objective, near impossible to shift!
Enemies ignore them - played my mates nids, he outflanked his genestealers right by my objective holding scouts, ignored them, wiped out a combat squad then got shot to pieces next turn. Them and my termies won me the game - thats a point, you didnt put DA termies in there!
Telion, Krak missiles have never hit so true!
Can take CC version, though they are a bit S***.
Heavy bolter comes with Hellfire shells (perfect for nid slaying), although it costs
No save from an autocannon - ah.
For get your Mr T, John Mayer leaks pure awesomeness with every note he plays.
I was also liking the BT crusader squads, 20 guys with preffered enemy running at the opponent their casulties only spurring them onward.
IG Best Gen 1st overall of 10 DE 4th overall of 6
Eldar 3rd Overall/Best General of 26--2nd Overall/Best General of 7--1st Overall/Best General of 11
I have to place my vote for tactical squads. I always take them with a rhino transport. Tactical squads have a wide variety of weapon options, making able to kill a myriad of enemies in shooting as well as assault. However, the one thing that makes them so good is their 3+ armour save. This means only 1/3 of wounds end up in actual casualties (aside from certain weapons, of course). Indeed, many argue that the tactical marine is the best point-for-point model in the game, myself included.

Though I voted for the scout squad, I am tied between them and the tactical squad.
"Carrotman" pretty much hit all the right reasons. I admit, I have become addicted to Hellfire shells. ICs can have Hellfire rounds, and I will buy them any chance I get.
I still find it funny, having opponents ignore the scouts. No idea why, but I can asure you they won't now!
Tactical squads have some nice "goodies" too. Besides being taken as Combat Squads, they do have a number of "free" upgrades. The sergeant also has a nice selection of wargear, to choose from, though I just stick with his bolter. Anti-persnoal squads, with rhinos, become a real threat to your opponent. You can also do the same, with anti-tank squads. Truly, there is no end, to the horro, you can inflict on your foe.
There is one Troops choice that you have left out. If your Captain has a bike, bike squads are troops.
A troop choice that can Turbo Boost to grab an objective! Sure they also have PLENTY of drawbacks (terain, upper levels, high points cost, etc) but they are an interesting option.
That being said, Drop Podding a tactical squad onto an objective means there are basically two squads(with a special weapon, heavy weapon and maybe a PF) plus a vehicle to destroy before the enemy can claim that objective!
But scouts(with camo cloaks) can go to ground on an objective and be almost impossible to shift.
All good choices, but in the end, my vote goes to... Tactical squads! Versatile, resillient, and value for points.

you also miss out on the DA troops choices, the deathwing terminators or ravenwing bikes.
May the "Nurgley Goodness" protect you!
While they are by no means the best (that award is obviously reserved for Tactical Marines), I like Inquistorial Storm Troopers. They are an often and unfairly overlooked, and for 140pts you can buy two squads of five, each with two plasma guns. Dump them in some cover, and you've got 4 or 8 plasma shots for very little. Seeing as how much plasma guns cost in our codex, it's nice to get them into the army for a more reasonable (i.e cheap) price.
As soon as I saw carrotman's post, I realized I omitted the following:
If you intended to vote for them, say it in your post
