In this recent game I played, my opponent had Scouts with Telion. He proceeded to tell me that he get 3+ cover saves when in cover. I then asked him whether he got camo cloaks and he told me no. They get the 3+ because Telion has stealth. Now I can't find anywhere in the Marine codex that says that Telion also confers his stealth bonus to his entire unit. What am I missing here?
unless specified in the codex that Telions stealth is conveyed onto his squad (which i believe it isnt) then the squad does not benefit from his Stealth. Take the chaplains fearless rules as an example, specifically stating it is conveyed onto the squad he joins. However, his stealth is not lost by him joining the unit as it is not one of the USR that is lost by a "IC" joining a unit. Therefore, you are correct.
Let him know however, that because he takes an upgraded character for the squad which cannot be bought any equipment, should he spend the points on the Camo Cloaks, he saves the 3 points for not having to buy them on Telion
No Telion does not give his squad stealth.. would be quite a bargain if he did though =)
Also.. I believe you must take camo cloaks for everyone if you opt to do so, ie. Telion included, even if he wont benefit from it.. otherwise it would almost always be most beneficial to leave a few scouts without cloak as for wound allocation and such.. I think I read in some FAQ once that 'points per model' upgrades must be bought for the whole squad.. then again this might've been several rule editions ago..
Hmm.. good call.. I do however believe that you must opt to take it for all the models in the squad including the sergeant that you then later replace with Telion.. but it's just 3 pts anyway.. hardly gonna matter ever.. just figured out how many smileys there are.. yet none of them matched the one I wanted !
The squads need to purchase, the camo cloaks, in order to have the "stealth" specical rule. Sergeant Telion has "stealth, as he comes with his own camo cloak ( viewing the model and his pic in the codex ).
Your opponent's view, would be correct, if both of you were playing Warhammer not 40k.
