Hey guys and girls
If you knew that you were to face an Ork Horde army followed by an IG horde army and for the last battle an Eldar elite army what would you field and why?
The normal bolt gun didnt do alot of good against ard boys for example with their 4+ save they suceeded alot. But also plasma seems stupid, being able to kill him self if unlucky.
Any pointers on what to bring? just not to much "cheese" balanced as much as possible is the best aproach i guess!
At the moment this question is too open, especially since we have no idea what models you have. Perhaps if you could provide a list of what you have, or even better an army list I'm sure a lot of people will be able to give suggestions.
Using heavy bolters and heavy flamers is a good start against both the Orks and IG. While going into CC fast against IG is good, tuning your list for CC when you know you have an Ork Horde waiting may be counter-productive. For the Eldar, you may want to describe further on what you know, especially if the list has massed Falcons
I havnt bought to much yet i am sitting on 3x10 tactical marines, they havnt had any weapons attached yet but i dont own any special weaponry that dont comes with the regular box. was thinking on giving two of them, flamer and missile launcher and the third will use meltagun and combi-melta (if i can get some ideas on how to convert one)
I got the dreadnought with multi-melta and terminators from the assault on black reach and there it stops .
The Eldar will mostly field a balanced army i think, not using alot of the same so at top 1 war walker squad, one prism and one wraithlord.
The orks will field alot and alot of boys, nobs at foot (much likely to find a transport in the future), the normal walking horde i suspect
And the IG i am clueless about, he sais he likes troops so i suspect alot of troops with alot of damned high ap weapons.
To begin with you should try the flamer and missile launcher combo. This combo is popular for a reason, and the reason being it works. Flamer against infantry and missiles against tanks.
The dreadnought can be very useful in tying down boys without power-klaws, so if for some reason you spot a mob without one and it's dangerously close to your marines, send the dreadnought and watch your opponent moan as he can't do anything to stop it. Do take note however, due to Orks being fearless when in a group of 11+, that dreadnought is probably not going anywhere so be sure you want to do that if you employ this tactic.
Terminators are fun. The Orks' number of attacks will kill them fast, but if you send them against IG troops you'll have lots of fun with their stats and 2+ save. Against the Eldar you have to be sure they don't get hit by Eldar CC specialists. Terminators die to massed firepower though, so don't get caught in the open.
By the way, am I correct in assuming that you and the three other players are friends who are just starting out? If so, I would suggest not worrying too much about what models to field and just play with what you have at the moment. Experience is often the best teacher, especially when starting out.
P.S. Do you have a HQ choice? The black reach set should have one.
A 10man sternguard might be good for you if you need to be versatile. You will have everything you need to kill both guards, orcs and eldar (even in good cover). But they are still quite expencive so against a strong shooting eldar army they might end up not being worth it.
But one suggestion that works fine against all 3: Whirlwind and if you are up for it Thunderfire cannons. Last one will have a crazy kill count against those 3 opponents.
