Are their points reduced when you take the jump packs of their backs because it does'nt state it in the codex?
It should take points of for fielding assualt squads without jump packs?
If you remove their jump packs, the points cost remains the same but you it give you the option of mounting them in a free Rhino or Drop Pod.
Essentially, the codex automatically spends the points knocked off on a dedicated transport.
What would u rather choose, jump packs or no jump packs
That depends on your force.
If I did collect SPESS MEHRENS, it'd be an Imperial Fists force. Primarily a mobile mid-long ranged shooting force with a small unit of jump-packing SPESS MEHRENS as a counter charge unit.
If you want a Mechanised force, take them in a Rhino. If the rest of your army Drop-Pods, take them in Drop Pods.
I prefer without jump packs, I find it keeps more of them alive longer.

I prefer bikers, as the extra T helps greatly.
Anywho, Waru pointed out the best advice, as it really depends on the type of force you have.
I like rhinos, for assault squads, as veteran players will destroy it then pick off your assault squad. However, rhino-based ASs are good in MEQ forces.
I wish they had the option, for a razorback. Small squads, with the right wargear, zipping around the field within a HB razorback, would be a nasty unit!
wat about using a droppod with a full assult squad with assult sarge Powerfist and 2 plasma pistols AND + with 2 spaces left for both your captains with relic blades and combi weapons. That is a SUPER CC UNIT. AROUND 40 cc Attacks on turn 2. WOW
I always (always) give my Assault squads their jump packs. Coupled with a Chaplain or Captain in a jump pack, they are a fantastic (and fast!) assault unit that can be where you need them to be, when you need them to be there. I see no huge advantages over taking them in a Rhino sans jump packs, besides maybe a little bit of extra protection, and they lose a portion of their mobility and their "jump over terrain" bit. Not to mention, you're really biting the bullet if you take a Rhino over jump packs, if you take any more than 7 Assault Marines. Assuming 5 points per jump pack (theoretically), you'll be losing out on points by the time you have a full squad.
I just don't recommend taking an Assault squad without their staple jump packs.
henshini says that you can live longer without jump packs ???? is this true??
I'd stick with the jump packs, personally, but you should feel free to play around with either option and see what flows best with your list.
