Can a ten man tac squad take a razorback? I thought the wording was if the squad numbers 6 models or less they can take it. I could be wrong as I dont have the codex infront of me.
I'm not here for the respect, just here to spread the clarity of a very complicated game
Codex simply says "may select a rhino or a razorback" so 10 man squads may select a razorback. You are thinking of the old 4th edition codex. The rules have changes since combat squads where introduced.
I thought that only combat squads could take razorbacks...
You can take it, but only up to 6 can ride in it. The best tactic for a razorback is to combat squad your unit. Your heavy weapon would be ground support while your power fist/weapon + meltagun/special weapon squad would go in the razorback for objectives.
I have on occasion considered taking a razorback purchase with a Tactical squad but deploying it separately, just as a mobile firebase/ LOS blocker. Heavy Bolter/Storm Bolter, is surprisingly useful, not to mention adding a hunter killer missle.
Throwing your Sergeant/special weapon trooper in the Razorback after combat squadding, and leaving your heavy weapon toting combat squad back, is a very solid strategy I find. Gives you a mobile scoring unit, and a scoring unit to sit back and provide fire support.
One thing to remember is that just because your tactical squad has a Razorback it doesn't mean that you have to combat squad them if you don't want to. You can keep the squad together and have the Razorback drive around on its own and provide fire support like Xpyre35 suggested. It's an option that's easy to overlook as most people will automatically combat squad and put half the squad in the Razorback without thinking about it.
Thou shalt remember:
Warhammer Fantasy armies do NOT have Codices. They have Army Books.
