If they were as is but 10 pts less per model? 100 pts for a unit of 3 with a bone head seems more worth it.
Or what if they were the same price but retained the feel no pain save that they were rumored to have? that would get pass their crappy armor save.
Or as they are now, points and all, but if you had either a Commissar Lord 6" nearby or a command squad with a regimental standard either in a chimera or in a large squad?
Most Notable Achievements:
Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.
With a full squad costing about 410 points minimum, I'd think not.
They seem like a nice unit via their statline and the ripper gun, but their cost is too high for their only applicable use (annoying other armies elite assault units)...but for 410 points I can just get some artillery/vehicle options and disable/kill the elite assault unit's vehicle and the unit itself for roughly the same point cost.
Even with a 10 point reduction per model it's running at about 310 per unit, thats an awful lot of points to just use to block an enemy assault unit, especially given that most other armies assault units have greater access to powerweapons and higher init anyways.,toughness 5 works well here but still the unit will most likley fail a check and be massacred then actually use up it's loads of wounds in a meaningful fashion to get enough hits/wounds to kill the enemy squad.
Also they are around $20 a model, so for roughly 2 models I could get that spiffy tank as well...
Just another unique unit that has been pigeonholed into the dust shelves by GW's over speculation of point cost vs practical utility.

Either feel no pain or better leadership; I would accept either. I was looking forward to starting an Ogryn squad but, with the new rules, it's hard to justify their expense (point and $). Thank the Emperor that they can at least use a Chimera. I might still start a six-man squad, however. The way I see it, IG is still hurting badly for ways to advance and hold an objective. The way we're clearly supposed to handle the issue is last-second turboboosts with Valkyries but I can't do it...I've spent years disrespecting Eldar players for doing exactly that. My tentative plan now is three Chimerae, two with Armored Fist squads and one Ogryn squad. The big boys fight off counterattacks and the AF boys try to live. The problem with that tactic is that I have to drop two tanks to afford it in a 1500 list.

they're not worth it period in my opinion, just damn expensive. however if you can get past the point/$ costs then they'd be sure handy to have around, rules modified or not. particularly if you can get them stuck in with some soft targets (i.e tau), or you keep their numbers relatively low (easier to manage). i agree with tronics, the points are best placed else where...

There not worth it at all points way to high.
In 5th ed there no good ether if they lose combat there LD minus diffrance and when run off at I2 there just minced. so 300 - 400 odd points of VP's for enemy right there

Ogryns Suck... there isn't more to tell.. they just suck in every aspect.
People who still take them are very brave or very stupid.

Sorry, even 10pts cheaper, I dont buy them. 5x = 1x tank, 6x = 1x fully armed tank, 10x = 2x tanks.
If someone tell me that want to play 30x against me, I just burrow 3x Manticores and blow them in to tiny pieces in 1-2 turns.

I've just run some basic numbers on the comparative combat efficiency of ogryns versus their closest game equivalents, ork shoota boyz. It doesn't look good for the ogryns.
When charging MEq's in assault, an ogryn will on average kill 0.55 of a MEq. An ork boy will kill 0.25. So much cheaper are ork boyz though that the same points value of ork boyz to the ogryn will kill 1.65 MEq's. In other words a charge by a unit of ork shoota boyz will inflict three times as many casualties as an ogryn unit of the same value, not factoring in things like bone'eads or nobs with power klaws.
In shooting the story is almost as bad. When shooting at MEq's the ork boyz will inflict 2.22 times as many casualties as the points equivalent of ogryns, and their weapons are longer ranged to boot.
When taking casualties the story is much the same. Bolter shots against an ogryn unit will reap an average of 4.4 points of dead ogryn for each hit. Against the far cheaper boyz it is just 3 points a hit. Not as hopeless a ratio as earlier, but still not good.
Ogryns are thus greatly overcosted. Their price needs to be cut not by 10 points, but possibly by as much as 20 points. Their statline is indeed awesome, but they lack the heavy armour, power weapons, high Ld, access to wargear and special abilities of characters and monstrous creatures. Consider if the cost of an ogryn squad was reduced to about half what it is now, would you be tempted by them then?
