What is a space marine better at?
I'm gonna declare it as a tie.
For shooting, he has the B skill to land the bullet/missile/plamsa/etc where it needs to be. Rending makes a termie squad really nasty.
For assaults, he has the W/T/Armor to stand toe-to-toe to any foe, and a really good chance to come out on top.
Wargear will improve their abilites in both range and CC.
Both, depending on how they're configured.
By the ways, on the polls you should always leave an option C - none or all of the above.
While they can be tooled to server each purpose very effectively. The basic stock standard Space Marine with original wargear, truly shines when in rapid fire range.
They can punish pretty much any other Troops selection in 1 round of firing, and they have a very strong standard armor save, and can shrug off alot of initial fire, or even whats left of the remaining return fire or the ensuing assault.
The whole points of Marines is to be flexible - equally potent in both CC and range, either attacking or defending. There is nothing they are bad at, nothing they are perfect at, but they are damn good at everything =)
They are ok at each task, but its when you combine the two that you get the best results.
"But courage which goes against military expediency is stupidity..."
I said shooting though you can have some really rock-hard assualt based Marine armies. Gun-heavy Marine armies can be though to deal with. I beleive they are better at shooting because they are more flexible with Combat Squads.
Currently play: 4000+ of Black Legion
yeah I agree
It all depends on what the chapter focuses on with normal battle brothers and whether he is an assault marine or devastator if he's with the chapter longer.
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.
