im running imperial guard with dh allies atm, for an assassin, so therefore, the inquisitor must be hq
this is geared to 1500 pts
^^: 75 pts
3x imperial guard veteran
-each with flamer
-each with combi-flamer
possibly with a chimera transport
i dont want a shooty inquisitor with hb servitors and a pc servitor fyi
If you're taking Holocaust and template weapons why not give the Inquisitor and Acolytes some CCWs.
Interesting setup, i hope no one will flame you for it....
...or it wont burn anyone's eyes...
...cus it is so hot...
...I can go on, but this is too easy =)
Very interesting list, but I have couple suggestions on how to improve it.
Since you will be upclose and personal with your lord and you dont have a huge CC capacity, I think a WH inquisitor with chirurgeons will give you a nice boost in your survivability. You don't have a per-se cc inquisitor, but an up-close burny maniac.. did he invent ork burna boys?
You can trade your incinerator for some random gadgets.
A lord can get a combi-bolter and a CCW or that spell that does not let anyone to charge him (sorry I dont have the name on top of my head), this would be a very nifty solution.
So you would look at something like this of a retinue:
3 IG with Flamers
2 Acolytes with Combi-Flamers
I think the total will be +8 points from the old squad.
Word of the Emperror ( i think that is what it is called)
Same in points
You get a little less punch in return for little more survivability and possibility to never get charged. While you still retain the assassin.
Hope I was a little helpful.
As Frank said, get rid of Holocaust. You don't want him in CC, at least not in that configuration. What you need is a transport (preferably the cheaper rhino) for him so that when the enemy gets close, you just pull up close to them, pop out, and make your all pyromaniacal dreams come true. If you footslog them, there's a good chance you're gonna get charged before you even get a chance to use those puppies.
Also put him between 2 Leman Russes (Demolishers work best) and behind 1 unit (so that he gets cover) so that if anyone Deep Strikes near you, you can treat your special guests with a nice big piece of pie.
Lastly, my best kept secret...give your Inq Lord the Emperor's Tarot. Guards, with all their heavy weapons and tanks, can be a nightmare if they get to go first. 1 round of IG gunfire will cripple many armies.
This is a very unique configuration. I think it's an overly expensive way to get flamers, but it is very cool and could be very expensive.
I would definitely recommend the Rhino for delivery of the unit. Without a transport, these guys will probably die, but will most definitely be useless.
Also, Rhinos have better side armour than a chimera as you race into position, and more exit points, making it easier to position your troops.
Note that it is possible to get too many flame weapons in any unit. The rules say you may not place a template if it touches any friendly model. With that many templates, and the realities of packing your unit within 2" of the transport exit, you definitely run that risk. I would consider plasma or melta guns for a couple of your models instead of flamers.
Also, have you considered making your flame assault based around a Chimera instead? Get a hull heavy flamer -- maybe also a turret heavy flamer? -- and use that to roast opponents. Keep your unit inside until you're ready to deliver the coup de grace. If you give the unit max plasma (instead of max flamers), you'll have a very brutal 1-2 punch.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

I love the fire! Definitely going to add my voice to the choirs calling for a transport, and also for the Emperor's Tarot (I just like going first - and move the artillery to drop pie plates turn 2 if not dropping them right away).
I would drop holocast (you do not want to be in CC), get Word of the Emperor and the Vindicar Assassin - you flame them, Vin drops the leaders, they fail moral. Word only forces them to take moral before attacking so you need to drop him.
Looks like a lot of fun though!! Good luck.
