Im doing my 3rd guard army(after the death Korps and my mechanised comapny) and have firmly decided to do an army of valkyrie borne tech-heavy guardsmen based on the marines from the movie aliens. I was thinking that the marines are very good fighters much like spaz marine scouts. the only problems were the chapter thing and the models. Well, im using cadians with catachan arms and other accessories added in. And I also also have a custom sentinal to use with drednought legs, a pentitent engine body, sentinal pilot and sentinal legs for arms with lascannons attached. It looks pretty good.
Cool! Would love to see some pics of your sentinel, it sounds sweet. You could do some sort of heavy stubber conversion that is held under-arm to simulate a smartgun (you could just count it as a heavy bolter) Also a sentinel power lifter would be cool
"Remember; long, uncontrolled bursts."
make sure to post some pics as soon as the model is ready
Great idea. I've converted a few guardsmen to look like the Colonial Marines from the movie aliens too. Hehe, even made a codex for em awhile back somewhere here on the boards. Too much green stuff for me to make a whole army though. I'd love to see how yours turns out.
Well, as the biggest fan of the Aliens series of movies on the planet (I've been to every movie except for the first one on the opening day, first showing) I have to say that I like this idea a lot.
Cadians aren't too far from what they should look like actually. They just need some shin and knee greaves and a backpack that has a lamp over the shoulder.
Microphones could easily be modeled onto their helmets and the SM Auspex thingies look pretty darn similar to a motion tracker.
You could even get a copy of the ole M41 pulse rifle off of the Aliens models, if you could find them, and make a bunch of duplicates, but don't expect to get to USE these at any official tourney due to copyright questions and such.
For more inspiration: Try to get a copy of the Colonial Marines Technical Manual. It's just loaded with modeling inspirations.
Heh heh, I took leave from the Army and pre purchased my tickets to AVP already... I'm just a sad sad case.
for your doctorins i advise.
Carapace (the marines armour is plated, not flimsy flack)
Sharpshooters(well they seemed good shots to me, and with all that targeting stuff)
Xenofighters-Nids (well kinda explains itself)
Well the other 2 are down to you! i cant really suggest any rite now maby Veterans or hardened fighters?
I HAVE NO FEAR FOR I AM FEAR INCARNATE!!!-Cpt Gabriel Angleios
Battle Records W/L/D

<span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'>From now on i shell be known as the black vegetable</span>
i did the same thing to my elite Veteran squad. I made Kicks have a shot gun, i modeld the catachan girl with the gernade launcher as vasquez but gave her a plasma gun instead. stuff like that. It looks nice but i don't have a digital camera so i can't post them yet
oh and give them the hardend fighters doctrine to improve their WS so that they fight like marines!
If you charge a bunker and die, its called being reckless, but if you charge the bunker and win, it's heroic!
I'd actually go against using the Carapace armor doctrine. While they're armor is substantialially better than today's GI's, its main use for the Colonial marines was to absorb shock. While carapace armor would be very good for them, their armor from the Aliens universe just doesnt really scream "sure, i could stop a high impact, explosive, adamantium tipped, bolter round!"
I'd go with xeno fighters definitely though.
According to the Colonial Marines Technical Manual it IS designed to stop small arms fire.
Because of the technical requirements of being a marine in the far far future, there are consequently fewer marines. This means that keeping them alive is very important, which is why they have good body armor.
Didn't help much in ALIENS though... heh.
