I was wondering if anyone else is surprised by the new rules, or have noticed anything we're overlooking. here's mine (and why - if putting stuff up please explain any particular foibles)
I won't bother covering orders or combined squads / infantry squad composition (for now, anyway)
Vet squads - can take powerfists, and cheaply too, but have lost infiltrate and score with tricks aplenty. (probably why infiltrate is gone)
Powerfists are cheaper, power swords have gone up.
- and none of that pesky "upgrading to veteran" costs or "officer only" stuff. In my army every squad gets a fist that has the option.
Missile launchers just 5 points below a lascannon cost.
- My anti tank just switched back to lascannons.
Heavy weapon teams drop a man in your squad, and don't have a lasgun
- If you move your two men can't still rapid fire. they're now one man who only carrie a move or fire weapon. They also are a poor choice in command squads, as it drops the squad down to 4 men for wound allocation - and your all important officer gets it.
Chimeras drop in price
- AV on the side drops though. However firing from it is far, far better with a mighty 5 shots!
No more "officers are IC's"
- 'nuff said. Yaay! give them fists!
No more drop troops
- with the lack of drop troops no more deep strikers, bar stormtroopers / valkerie kickout. Outflanking penal troops are pretty much their replacement.
Sentinals got mean!
- Ever been in combat with a SM dreadnaught and just can't beat it's AV? Aurmored sentinals now kick butt! cheap AV12 walkers!
Vets can take Camo cloaks and Carapace armour at the same time,it says can take any of the doctrines, not just one woohoo....expensive however
Chimera's were always AV10 on the side.
Chimera's now have 5 fire ports instead of 2 and 6 lasguns.
Vets in a chimera with sgt harker means 3 specials and a heavy bolter always firing. And another heavy weapon firing if you didn't move.
Stormtroopers have hellguns, pistols and CCWs. Not amazing really just suprising as few loyalist marines are granted the privelage.
Vets have demolitions, sweet jebus entire squads with meltbombs and a 1 shot ordinance weapons for a horribly respectable cost.
Seems like every time I looked at Valks and Vindies it was something new and even more stupid. It was a good deal when I thought they were just Respectably armored fast skimmer transports with solid weapons, but with Scouts Deep Strike and free Extra Armor, the things just have every ability you could ever want from a transport. I'm still waiting to see the "kitchen sink" special rule
Straken has a Grey Knight Statline . And he doesn't have a power weapon, he just punches hard enough to ignore armor and go through vehicles. And of course he makes himself furious charge and Counterattack in addition to everyone around him. Seems like this guy will blindside alot of opponents who aren't familiar with him.
Orders are certainly far more limited than I originally thought. The company commander has some decent ones but only 2 and a fairly limited range. And the whole checking on the squad receiving the order's leadership limits you even more unless you are also packing a commisar lord or yarrick. The platoon commanders are just abyssmal. 1 order with junk for range and most of them are really situational or just plain weak (wee an extra lasgun shot for 1 squad)
Losing the command bubble was one of the biggest suprises. makes most of your army test on some unimpressive numbers.
All russes now have AV13 sides, not just demolishers. Almost means you have to assault the things unless you have railguns.
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
Losing the LD bubble isn't so bad. Guardsmen squads are now LD8 for the most part, which is the same as most every other army.
well thinking about it
grey knights are fearless
daemons are fearless
orks can mob (almost fearless)
nid have synapse (almost fearless)
Eldar have some pretty impressive LD
a good portion of armies dont worry so much about LD since the above armies are all i play against (excluding tau) Leadership is rarely used in my games and when it is its my men falling back
I was surprised to see the new Russ rule Bahemoth (sp?) i did'nt hear any rumours about it so it was a present surprise
"Thank him who puts me loath to this revenge on you who wrong me not for him who wrongd"
I didn't have too many surprises as I had been keeping up to date on the rumours! But a couple of little things did make me double take after I got my hands on the codex.
The biggest surprise for me was also the Heavy Weapon costs, just a 5 point gap between the Missile Launcher and the Lascannon marginalises the ML enough as it is, but also they have opened up a 5 point gap between the Autocannon and ML, I always thought these two were pretty well balanced against each other.
Also, having the AC at the same cost as a Heavy Bolter totally marginalises that too in my opinion. You are pretty much choosing between the AC and LC now.
Not being allowed to take a commissar in conscript squads surprised me.
A couple of other little surprises I had in wargear options, veterans can't take laspistols & close combat weapons, and also sergeants can't take lasguns, that made me double take.
You mean to say Sargeant CANT TAKE LASGUNS!!!!! "£(%*&%^£$%£^*"^$(*^$(!£%^£(!%^!!!!!!!!! Thats every single one of my sargeants in the bin!
For get your Mr T, John Mayer leaks pure awesomeness with every note he plays.
I'm real glad i opened this up - uber grit on storm troopers! well i never - I still won't charge with them, but it's not all that bad.
AV13 on all russ sides! ooohhh..... didn't read that properly.
I am in two minds about orders - it seems like such a good idea, and should work well, but the important targets (heavy weapons) have problems increasing theitr LD past 7.
Creed and kell seem more appealing now.
