Hey guys. I recently got the codex and i will be running a mechanized guard army. I of course started of with my command squad so tell me what you guys think of it:
*Commander w/Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Carapace Armor
*(2x) Melta's, Carapace Armor
*(2x) Flamer, Carapace Armor
*Chimera w/multi-laser, hvy. bolter, hvy. stubber

Use either meltas or flamers, not both. IG can have enough squads to specialise so if you're trying to make 1 squad do everything you're doing wrong. I'd suggest a vox, failing orders suck and you'll only fail the important ones.
Other than that, is it a platoon command squad or company- if it's platoon i'd lose the power wep as they cost twice as much as in the last codex and with the profile of a platoon commander i don't know if the power weapon's the best choice.
IG Best Gen 1st overall of 10 DE 4th overall of 6
Eldar 3rd Overall/Best General of 26--2nd Overall/Best General of 7--1st Overall/Best General of 11
Also if you're in a chimera, you don't need carapace. You can just driveby and shoot from the hatch. Now 5 models can fire from the top hatch. Especially if you only bring meltaguns.

To start, it is a Company Command squad and I gave my commander a power weapon just to make him a little more effective if he gets in cc, which is a good possibility. Carapace armor is fairly cheap considering it gives the whole squad a 4+ save, and I only plan on using it for important units, plus it sucks when your men are killed by mere bolters outright. I'm still a but undecided with the veterans special weapons and its come down to either meltas of flamers, but after some quick changes, ithis is what I got:
w/Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Carapace Armor
-w/Vox, Lasgun, Carapace Armor
-w/Meltagun, Carapace Armor
-w/Flamers, Carapace Armor
-w/Multi-Laser, Hvy. Blter, Hvy. Stubber

I think it would depend on the rest of your army, if you need anti-tank then go with meltas. If you think you have that covered but as a result are low on anti-horde go with flamers.
That being said, the BS4 command squad benefit most from the meltas.
and personally, I prefer a medic over carapace (then again I am biased, I play tanith so I always have a medic and camo cloaks). But with a medic you'll get a 5+ then a 4+, or in case of bolter fire you still get your 4+ Also anything that would ignore feel no pain would almost always ignore a carapace saves.

Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.
I dont bother making my guard better in CC anymore. If they are in combat they will die. It can be pretty fluffy/cool haveing your officer slicing through the front lines but if i really want to win a game, i drop all power weapons/fists and bring more guns

Well said... I agree completely. The chances that your command squad gets into close combat, they will find it very hard especially against units with higher initiatives. You might not even get to use your upgrades (imagine a power fist... everyone will strike before you).if i really want to win a game, i drop all power weapons/fists and bring more guns
