Hi IG players,
In my gaming group we have a little debate: The valk/vendetta model come with that great base but it is 40cm into the air. Reading the rules when you disenbark from a transport you have to deploy in 2'' of his exit point (count from head to exit point in skimmer type). That is not really possible with valk meaning the only way to make it a viable transport is the grav-chute.
What is you opinion?
That's stupid. It's a skimmer, so it just lands or hovers and you place the models.
Check out ==My== blog: www.bnhblog.blogspot.com
probably is stupid but it clearly says that you are not allowed to replace/remove the base and also says clearly you have to deploy in 2'' od exit point. I`m not arguing the stupidity/lack of clarity in vendetta rules. Also is in the rules that skimmers do NOT land in battle. Exception i think is TAU where is in the codex the landing gear if i remember (at work no codex here)

It is an unwritten rule that all measurements are horizontal measurements unless stated otherwise. Until they start agreeing with you, claim that they cannot attack valykries in close combat, due to there models inability to get in base contact with the vehicles hull.
Looks like they'll be deploying into thin air from now on!! (Or possibly buildings )
Although, I'm sure there's a good way to work this out. Just don't have my rulebook on me at the moment, is all...
"Pickles, the drummer, doodily doo. (Ding-dong, doodily, doodily, doo.)"
Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
a good errata/FAQ for IG would be a start cause this will cause some problems i think .... if you can attack them in CC (page 71 rulebook) but you need grav chute for deploying troops would be plain stupid...an i am an eldar player i know about the elevated small flying base and the 2'' rule that gives me creep when i have to deploy from a serpent.
Other simple solution would be a small height base for normal games and the big base for apoc games (if exists stats for a flyer vendetta) or if you choose to take those grav chutes anyway. i`m reading the rulebook again now to search the damn solution inside
later edit: As i read measurment is from base of infantery to hull of the vehicle.
The only exception from this rule is the close combat assault. the only way we could get away is that if we think is a horizontal measurment no matter the height of the skimmer but then we could see serpents or falcons at 70cm above the table denying any cover save from any other tank possible (except skimmer flat out move) and still able to disembark their troops. And also because of base, could actual avoid terrain restrictions as you actual put in position otherwise impossible.

Personally I'm thinking they'll have to devote a small section of the FAQ as to how the Valk/Vendy should be treated in game terms.
1) The base positions it ridiculously high over the ground
2) Two models cannot occupy the same space, and betwee the tail booms and wings, that would make it nearly impossible to deploy infantry
3) None of this is mentioning sheer size which means when coming off the table it wouldn't be possible to position to where it moved 6" or less without part of it hanging off the table
All-in-all, I'd say this is what GW gets for copy-pasting FW models instead of redesigning to more properly fit the gaming system. That being said, the model is quite awesome, just dodgy from a rules perspective.
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
question: as i see a nice Rule as Intended for this one would be to actial consider the skimmer without the base and measure horisontally, what you think about the following situation:
Vendetta cannot fit on the ground due to terrain features except only in some orientations. We should restrict the disembarking for those. or make the vendetta to take a dangerous terrain test for the orientation when it should hover over a ruin/building/difficult/dangerous terrain?
