I'm working on making an army list right now and have got the basic down, and have to blow a few more points some where (20ish). But I digress, I was looking at a bodyguard as a possible sink, but was highly disappointed, they have no options , one would think that they have a allot of weapon option being the commanders personal reunite, you known to give them some character . I had a rough idea of converting a really unique one , but that got shot down. This mostly a rant saying I miss the armoury and the Character you could bring to a army with it. Where are my commissars with storm bolters going now?
It would be really cool and characterful of being able to upgrade body guards, I've been wanting to make a sons of sek army for a while and now I might make a company command squad with a "platoon" of vets to act as them. I would be using body guards as life wards, but they just aren't very killy. Then again, they do there purpose well, take away wounds from the commander is why you would buy them. And competitively it's not wise to add wargear to a model that could very easily have 2 wounds on his measly flak armor save.
Then again, you could use Nork or Kell as a count as for your conversion, both of them are awesome bodyguards. Kell is one of the few models in the army with an initiative above 3, and he comes with a power fist and weapon for versatility. and Nork is just massive and can actually take alot of those wounds you allocate on him and live.
