    slugthrowers

i have been toying with my imperial guard grav-chute troopers and i added some slugthrowers to my army. i used some sub machine guns for shotguns, but i also added autoguns to replace some lasguns. i also still use some shotguns too.

i was just a little curious to see if anyone else did this. what did they add and did anyone think about the use of sub machine guns for there guardsmen.

I avoided machine guns because as drop troops running out of ammo isn't really an option. The lasgun clips can be heated by the sun or thrown in a fire to get more ammo.

Why is it every time anyone anywhere brings up lasguns they have to say the batteries can be thrown in a fire? If you do that your commissar will shoot you. It's for extreme emergencies because doing so is just as likely to destroy the batteries as it is to recharge them.

'Cause many people can quote parts of the Imperial Infrantryman's Uplifiting Primer but very few have read it for themselves!

Because the choice between some ammo and no ammo is obvious. And Commissar's are not everywhere.

A squad actually running completely out of ammunition is an extreme case. They alternate batteries. Some are charging, some are in use. And in a case where you're being overrun then that won't help anyway because fire or no fire they take time to recharge, throwing them into a fire is only useful if you're lacking a solar or electrical source, which you won't be unless you're stranded in the field for long periods at night. And I imagine your local chimera is able to charge them electrically.

Also, this is just speculation, but they likely have mechanical generators. It's really simple technology. Field radios 40 years ago had mechanical generators. Just have people spinning the crank in shifts and it generates power which can recharge it. Electircal recharging is more efficient than solar unless they have crazy efficient solar cells.

you got a point about the las gun batteries, but i think of it this way if lets say 80% of the universe can make las guns. then i would say 98% of the universe can make a auto gun. also think about this.

hes the +'s and -'s of slug throwers and las guns.

auto gun uses a copper coated lead slug that flies at a high velocity. +
    it has stopping power. +
the ability to wound someone and they will keep bleeding. +
the slug will have a small entry wound but a big exit.+
built tough and can even use to bust and orks skull.+
    maybe hard to find ammo.-
the weapon can jam but its probly unlikly.-

now the las gun uses light and heat that flies at a very high velocity.+
can recharge enegry cells in a fire or by solar means.+
the light of a las gun can give away position just by the enegry beam.-
i would say the las gun is a bit more accurate.+
las gun can jam just like the auto gun.-
easier to break a las gun.-
    has no stopping power.-
wounds but seals the wound, so no bleeding to death in that orks future. - this is very bad for the guy using the las gun.

i would say if i cloud have a warhammer 40k las gun or an AK-47 well call me old school but the AK is my pick.

now by all right though in game terms the las gun and auto gun are the same just look different.

Lasguns have plenty of stopping power.

Isn't the lasgun supposed to be the most reliable, unbreakable thing in pretty much ever? Also I fail to see how lasers can jam.
