What's your favourite special ammo for sternguard Vet's?
Kraken bolts are the best for mass armies with their long range.
It depends on the situation you're in - Kraken bolts are always good against horde armies like Tyranids and IG and they have a long range, Dragonfire rounds are good for taking out things inside bunkers - Havocs and heavy weapons are usually a good place to start. Vengeance rounds have a short range but are devastating against MEQs. Hellfire rounds are good against things like Carnifexes with high Toughness. So it depends on the situation.
For me, it's a toss-up between Kraken bolts and Vengeance bolts. I voted Kraken.
Though I don't play SM myself, I think Sternguard excel at rapidfire range, thus the increased range of kraken and decreased range of vengeance doesn't mean all that much.. The good thing about the Sternguard are the option to chose the ammo they want at any given time, and all of it got a use.. However were they to only have ONE kind I'd say hellfire is the best, always wounding on 2+ is great and can make a mess out of targets relying on high toughness to stay alive (MC's, bikers and such) and even helps them score more wounds against GEQs and MEQs. In fact the only targets they won't be better at killing than standard bolters are grots and ratlings (they're still as good though) and AV 10 vehicles (I wouldn't suggest using any kind of Sternguard ammo to destroy AV10 though).
The Hellfire wins of their versatility, dragonfire can be nice against covered targets but is otherwise only as good as normal bolters, kraken doesn't help killing MEQs except for their range and Vengeance is hazardous and will only kill more against 3+/4+ saves compared to normal bolters..
I choose Dragonfire Bolts, for the ability to punch through cover saves.
Personally, overall, all the ammo type are good depends which squad/force you are facing.
For me it's a toss-up between vengeance and hellfire, since where I play there are an abundance of MEQ players (Marines, 'Crons, and Chaos Marines), and there are at least 2 nidzilla players which gives me a good reason for Hellfire rounds. Since I couldn't pick 2, I went with Vengeance.

Imperial Guard: W6/L4/D0
Hellfire rounds, followed by Vengeance. I always make sure my first target with the Sternguard are high toughness creatures. Wraithlords, Carnifex's, Greater Daemons, etc... I've never failed to bring those things down with one round of shooting.
If I'm playing against Marines, or Crons, where I don't have to worry about dropping big uglies, I'll stick to the Vengeance rounds. Especially against the targets I want to dissapear quick. Vanguard, Assualt Squads, stuff like that.

It really does depend on the situation, but I vote for kraken bolts, for their excellent range against hordes
For get your Mr T, John Mayer leaks pure awesomeness with every note he plays.
To be honest I think they best thing about them is the fact you can choose every time you fire!
My MVP round so far has been the hellfire round though - simply for the number of Daemon Princes I've felled with them!
