After a long break I've decided to start up my Imperial guard army once again.
I'll skip the bullshit and go straight forward; My currently dilemma is how the structure is working within the new codex, what special weapons I should take (dun' like melta rush and I'll mostly be playing Orks, marines, Tau and another IG army), what heavy weapons you should go with so it work properly with yer special weapons. I'll try to stay in cover mostly of the time and not face CC at all. I'll also mostly play with another amry due my size.
This army ain't going to be a standalone I'm afraid, or I will probably play against other small armies since my biggest interest in this hobby is converting and painting. But I will build it bigger when I'm done with the current objectives.
Anyhow, I will be using doctrines - that's for sure. I don't really bother about the points either to be honest, since my army will be including around 3-4 squads, HQ, an OLD-STYLE Valkyrie (eventually going to buy a plastic one too for comparement), a storm trooper squad, 2 sniper squads (catachan one) and an open slot for further ideas.
Not too sound like a 13 year old, I'm inspired by my national army (which it will be apart of, but 40k:ish), Call of duty 4, Killzone and the rest modern armies around the world. So it's a bit of a recon-rangers-specialcoolsuperops army. Due my interests in converting I'm going to field only veteran squads (eventually one platoon tho).
Might have forgotten some questions and so on, but I'll forward them later if so.
I also would like this thread to be a source for other guard plaers who want to field a small army due different factors.
Conversion ideas/examples is most welcome.
P.S. Are you able to use Harker and Bastonne in whatever game you want?
I believe the doctrines he refers to are the stuff like Carapace and Forward sentries. In that case, I'd advise against it as they are overpriced. Just get a Chimera, that's all the protection you will need.
An all Vet army can work very well. What points level are you looking to build towards?

Thanks alot for your advice. Been thinking about an autocannon or a missilelauncher too and to be honest I can't make up my mind since both of them are quite equal.
Had some thoughts about the GL's too and they sound pretty neat due the "assault 1", perfect when you need to move. Thoughts about having a forward squad with grenade launchers(?) and/or plasma guns? Then having a covering squad with an autocannon+snipers?
What's yer 2 cents about it?
Yes, I meant the veteran doctrines, though I won't put them in a Chimera since I want to hold onto infantry and eventually some airborne carriers for fast side switching etc (never been into tanks either tbh, might build some kind of APC later on if so). Logical? Not at all.
Sorry for any typos or missunderstandings. A bit late over here.
I love the new codex and have gotten over the bitterness of losing Gaunt just because vets and orders are so much fun. I don't care if the doctrines aren't the most efficient, they're cool. I've played 2 games so far, a 600 pts and a 2500 pts. Both against orks, and both ended up being kill points. The first one I was winning on kill points, but I got massacred cuz he wiped me out. The second one I won 9 KP-6 KP even after losing 3 Leman Russ's in the first turn to deff koptas (forgot they could scout!).
P.S. The hell hound (who supposedly took a nerf and isn't bother taking) saved the day Killed 5/8 war bikers (not nobs though) and allowed iron hand straken's squad and chimera to finish them off in shooting (btw, the bike special character was in there too)
Most Notable Achievements:
Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.
